DeAndre Liggins has been faced with all sorts of pressure defenses as a freshman point guard at Kentucky.

Tonight, he met a different sort of press.

Liggins got his first career start tonight against Central Michigan, and following the Wildcatshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20081229/SPORTS03/312290009#)' 84-52 win, he was made available to the media for the first time since UK's preseason media day.

The freshman from Chicago discussed his season to date and his controversial refusal to enter UK's game against Kansas State on Nov. 28 in Las Vegas.

That decision, Liggins said, was made in frustration over his lack of playing time.

"It was kind of tough, because I'm a competitive guy, and I wanted to help my team win the best I could," Liggins said. "It was a bad day for me. I got over that. Me and coach (Billy Gillispie) see eye-to-eye now, and we're moving on."

WildcatRick, you find the most interesting UK items. I passed this link on to my local UK friends. I did not include the idiotic L fan comments.

Is it a coinicdence that Liggins gets to speak to the press, after he gets his first start? I think not. I hope BCG makes a habit of starting the young man.

By the way, 2 of the 3 best assists, in last nights game, were made by Liggins. Stewart made the other great pass to Patterson, down in the post.

"Me and coach see eye-to-eye now..."

I hope the translation to that is, "I now understand that Coach is the coach, and I will do as I am told."

Based on what I have observed of Coach Gillispie it was probably more like, "Coach told me he was glad I had the fire in me to be rebellious, but also told me if I ever did that during a game again I would be kicked out so fast I would sketch a firey trail acoss the night sky as I reached terminal velocity and left earth's orbit."

Confirms that it was nothing more than a freshman mistake + competitive fire. Sometimes that's going to equal bad decision making.

Good to see that DeAndre has a positive attitude and just wants to help the team win. He'll be a good one before it's all said and done.

Only an idiot would refuse to allow a young person to make one mistake. Only a greater idiot would allow someone to make the same mistake more than one time.
BCG forgave the first mistake, and that was very wise (in spite of the many people out there who disagreed with his decision, and you know who you are). But I seriously doubt the situation will ever repeat itself. And if it does, Liggins will need to move on. But my guess is that he will end up being a star at UK!
