What's happening to the "Big Blue Mist"? More like the big blue condensation recently. Couldn't sell out Freedom Hall, and can't sell out the third bowl in a row.

It's still football season at UK, but how come no one is interested?

And how many did Tommy have to buy for your 2nd appearance there? Had to charter busses and give away tickets to have a small crowd there. Just how many bowl games has tommy had to buy up tickets to cover your allottment? :icon_lol:

For your information, hotshot, UK broke attendance records at the last two bowls and you know it as well as we do. And you care whether UK sells out the Liberty Bowl about as much as you care about the price of a dozen eggs in Moscow. Gimme a break! :icon_rolleyes:

BTW, how are ticket sales going for the bowl game the Cardinals are going to this year?

This fan is feeling guilty about not going. Had I not invited my son's future father in law for dinner Saturday night you KNOW I would have been there. He doesn't live here and this was a good time to have him over to meet him. Watching the news this morning and seeing UK fans being interviewed on why they aren't going made sense to me. Disappointing for the players, but understandable. There will be a Blue Mist there. Just not an overwhelming downpour.

I can't afford it. With the way the economy is, all the layoffs around here, etc.

Liberty bowl is one of the most expensive tickets.

Hopefully, the wife will have her great job back in the next month or so, and we can get some cash rollin in.

I understand completely. Last year I bypassed the SEC tourney because of other obligations and $$. Did attend the MCB both years. This is for more than one reason, am having to forego the bowl, but will be in Tampa. Also will have a wedding later in 2009. Maybe when I win the lottery will be able to do it ALL. And first class! Also, my hubby isn't sure how long he will have his job. What's a fan to do???:icon_cry:

Never sold out any of them? You may want to recheck your "facts" TB.

As far as the Liberty bowl goes; perhaps we should create a list of canned excuses like someone did for UL games.

1) The drive is too far
2) Gas is too expensive
3) I couldn't find a hotel room
4) I have been to every other bowl game
5) I can't get off work

Okay, if you sold out a bowl game or two, which ones were they? I would think you'd be falling all over yourself bragging about it.

Those are better excuses than UL fans' excuses this year:

1) team could not win 6 games in a wimpy conference
2) no bowl invitation, again
3) no free tickets and bus rides from UL this year
4) no $5 tickets at Kroger
5) it's just no fun anymore without Rod Council

I wonder if this year's Orange Bowl will take away UL's record for least watched BCS bowl game in history?

And you're telling us that UL has sold out bowl games, when they usually can't even sell out their own tiny stadium at home unless UK is playing there?

I believe we didn't sell it out because not only is the drive a little farther than it has been, but I feel a lot of fans sense we are going to lose. I was never going to the game to begin with but I think we are going to lose. Sometimes you just have to take the Big Blue Goggles off and face the fact that we weren't very good or exciting at all this year. But that was to be expected. I didn't think we would even make a bowl game so the season was a success in my book.

The Orange Bowl was a sellout for one. Attendance was 74,470. The Orange Bowl capacity is only 74476. Not only was it a sellout, there were only six empty seats!

I believe the main excuse for UL fans is that TARC buses don't go that far
and the other is your team sucked the last 2 years

Hold on there. Who thought we would win the 2006 MCB? Isn't this spread closer? Do agree that going to a bowl this year looked bleak, but we were pleasantly surprised. Now the Humanitarian Bowl would be a big stretch. Attendance was pityful last night. At least by the 4th Qtr when I was watching. Not arguing with you Blue Heaven, just remembering someone in the elevator from the opposing team in '06 was dogging us about having a big attendance go home disappointed and who would be making the most noise at the end of the game ;)

You are exactly right Cathy! UK has been the underdog in the minds of UK fans every year. The idea that we are going to lose has nothing to do with the majority of the people that aren't going this year. I think it has more to do with the location and "thought" that ticket prices are high. In reality they aren't that much higher than the MCB. The differenece it that all the tickets are pretty much the same price. They don't really have different levels like the MCB did (which was nice getting a ticket for $15 instead of $50). The economy is having a big effect. But, hey I will cheer enough for all you guys that can't make it.

Let's see, officially we sold 37,000 tickets through the university. Another 12,000 or so bought tickets from online brokers and there were 6 empty seats. That must make the UL fan base the most charitable in the world for giving away all those tickets they paid for.

How can you tell what team a fan is rooting for if they buy tickets from a online broker?

YULE..here is some facts

2006 Penn State-Florida State attendence was 77,912 you only had 74,470 so your game was NOT a sell-out

2005..attendence was 77,912

2004 ..attendence was 76,739

2003..attendence was 75,971

where are you getting this 6 empty seat stuff:shrug1:

I understand. Not so much on here, but the UK fans I interact with on a daily basis seem to believe we are going to lose. Trust me, I am as big a UK fan as they get but I just don't have a very good feeling about this one. I hope I'm wrong believe me I do. I sjust seem to have a 6th sense about these sort of things.

UL has been bumped from the record book.

"The Cincinnati-Virginia Tech Orange Bowl played on New Year's night drew a paltry 6.1 overnight rating for FOX, shattering the previous low of 6.98 set by the 2007 Wake Forest-Louisville Orange Bowl. By point of comparison, the Dec. 27 Florida State-Wisconsin Champs Sports Bowl drew nearly the same-sized audience."

As you know, you can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.

Just because you give an automatic BCS birth to the Big East doesn't mean its a BCS worthy conference. Its still a pig. Fans know that an do not watch. Lil Bro should thank Cincy for taking them off the hook. But its a Big East thing as much as anything IMHO.
