Three straight winning seasons, three straight bowls and three straight wins.

All goals of UK head coach Rich Brooks when he took over the struggling UK football program in 2003. Now, those goals are a reality as the Cats defeated East Carolina 25-19 in front of 56,125 fans Friday night at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis.

With a little special teams and defensive help, the Cats can lay claim to an achievement that no UK football player has been able to claim: back-to-back-to-back bowl visits and wins.

“I’m very proud of this senior group that has done something no other group has done — win three straight bowl games,” Brooks said. “It wasn’t the Sugar or Cotton bowls, but they did it.”

Led by senior corner David Jones 99-yard kickoff return to start the second half, the Cats came back from a 16-3 halftime deficit to win. Senior defensive end Ventrell Jenkins scooped up a fumble and rumbled down the field 56 yards for the game-deciding score.
