Jodie Meeks is another name that has surfaced from the '06 recruiting class. He's even rated BETTER than Willie and Jasper but I imagine that differences b/n all of them isn't that far apart. He has length (6'4") and plays the point in HS but probably will see mostly if not all of his time at SG.

Kentucky offers scholarship to Meeks
Kentucky has entered the race for Jodie Meeks, a 6-foot-4 guard from Norcross, Ga.
UK Coach Tubby Smith visited Meeks and his family at their home last Thursday and became the latest coach to offer a scholarship. Meeks, whose stock has skyrocketed after a strong summer of AAU play, plans to make an official visit to Lexington this weekend.
Meeks averaged 17.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in helping his high school team to a 31-1 record last season. His team reached the Class 5A final last season. He has narrowed his list of college choices to UK, Florida and Alabama.
Meeks recently made an unofficial visit to Florida, attending the Gators' football game with Tennessee on Sept. 17. He took an official visit to Alabama earlier in September.
When he added Kentucky to his list, Meeks dropped Notre Dame, Illinois and Oklahoma State.

Done in my best Roy Williams...
"I could give a #$&% about rankings.."
The thing that matters to me is fitting the system and being a team player.
If he can do that then all right.
Jodie can... I just dont know if now is the best time for this move...

i also can't explain that comment, but this kid seems to be pretty good. obviously, we dont know much about him since he's just now being mentioned as a possible recruit. but the fact that he's rated above jasper and kemp is pretty impressive. and at 6'4", he has pretty good size for a 2G. on his profile, it said that he loves to play D and has nice handles. all sounds good so far. i wouldn't mind at all nabbing a 6'5" PG in jasper ANDa 6'4"SG in meeks. well, as long as we also get brandon and either deon/thaddeus.:ggrin::ggrin:

I just wonder sometimes if we UK fans are just robots or like Data on ST:TNG.
Ok guys since I have to be completely punctual with you guys. I try not to make you just follow along. I wish all of you would think for your selves.
If we get Jasper and Meeks. That is 3 guards. We will also have Ramel. For 2007 that would put up some friction for one OJ Mayo. It also with 3 combo guards and PG who can play the 2 (Porter), a friction path for Senario Hillman, Austin Freeman, Kevin Branch and Chris Allen (4 of the top 2G in 2007 who we are after). What it will do is take us to a level BELOW THE TOP GROUP.
What am I saying. Is Meeks better in the long than Freeman, Hillman, etal. As of now I would say no. I wouldnt go down this path.
Tubby is the boss and makes the decision.
I am just expressing opinions of the recruiting world.
many of you clammer for the shooter. Meeks isnt it.
Freeman, Hillman, Branch, Dante Jackson (the one I REALLY WANT from 2007) may shy away with them here.
you make up your own mind.
I am just "concerned"/

Jackson doesn't seem to be bothered by the competition as he has OSU as his favorite, even with Conley/Cook/Lighty, all of whom are rated ahead of Jasper/Meeks.

That scares me. Have you read his quotes about OSU lately?! Is Thad Motta doing "favors" for these guys on their respective visits...lol! You'd rather have Jackson than Hillman/Freeman? How come? I don't know much about Freeman.

Well, it isnt that I dont want them, per se.
Freeman and Hillman are similar to Meeks and Jasper. They dont have the handle that Derrick has but they are similar. If there ever was a time to get A SHOOTER... its Dante. He would fill THAT role. It isnt that I dont want them. I just dont know if we could get both and since we would have Derrick and Jodie... I am not sure, since we want the PG also... (OJ Mayo, Corey Fisher, etc.) that you can get more than one.
In this class... go for the shooter. So I prefer Dante. If you cant... falling back to these two or even Chris Allen or Kevin Branchisnt a bad thing either. Tubby will have several options and none are bad.
