There is a flip side to blowing up on ESPN, dropping 54 points on Rocky Top and becoming the nation's most talked-about college basketball player.
In the words of an old-school hoops sage — Olivia Newton-John — foes are now going to get physical, phy-si-cal, with the scalding-hot Kentucky guard.
Meeks saw his new life in full Wednesday night when he tried to rise for a three-point jump shot against Auburn only to be bulldozed under by defender Frankie Sullivan.
"When I was a freshman, that stuff might have gotten in my head a little bit," Meeks said of Auburn's physical play. "But if teams play physical, you just have to accept that and not let it take you out of your game. I think I can do that."
His teammates think so, too.
If going smash-mouth with Meeks as a means to knock him off his game is what future UK foes plan to do "that's a bad idea," said UK forward Perry Stevenson. "I've seen him get upset before when guys try that stuff. He'll light you up on both ends of the floor."

Jodie seems like the type that would welcome that kind of aggression. Will probably only pump him up even more.

Haha. . . I love Perry Stevenson's interviews - he has to be the most quotable Cat in recent memory.

I did notice that Auburn was making Jodie really earn the ball coming off the screens/pick at the top of the key. It was like they were in his "hip pocket". That should be something he'll be able to get free throws for if it continues through conference play. I'd take 91% from the line ALL day!
Thanks

One of my five favorite Wildcats is mentioned in the article. Kenny Walker was one of most physically and mentally tough Wildcats in my lifetime...he got the stuff pounded out of him and kept his cool.

I have a feeling Meeks can take up for himself. I also have a feeling the running his defender into a nice ppat pick a few times might soften them up a little :icon_mrgreen:

A very good comparison...Got to meet Kenny at one of the games
last year, I forget which one, I'm old and drunk most of the time.
Anyway, I was there with Terry and Wildcat Rick (who is also a
nice guy...he's who introduced me to Kenny. Kenny looked like
he could suit up that night. Anyway, I think its one hell of a
compliment to be compaired to Skywalker and I hope Jody
continues to live up to his new billing.
I think he can, so look Florida

As long as the physical defense does not lead to injury, I'm sure Jodie and the Wildcats* say, "Bring it!"
*Not to be confused with nor even compared to Josie and the *****cats!
Edit: RE, asterisks--apparently, WCN screens the p-word, even in the context of animal names.

The one thing that stood out in the better forgotten Auburn game (turnovers made me ill) was how "glue-ish" the defenders were on Meeks. One stuck to him like glue almost the whole night, sometimes two, he got hit, pushed, bumped....and ya know what? He still dopped in 31. What does that tell you about how good this kid really is?

Meeks is a beast. They can't stand it in the least. Oh I'm speaking in Ryme.
