Brett Nelson
Charismatic, knows the SEC, knows the area, young, energetic, played a style young guys can relate to and will remember who he is.
Please be realistic...no Coach K or Roy stuff.
That should read assistants not assitants...I'm not really sure what an assitant is.

I would not be upset if the Buzz Peterson rumors came true. Good recruiter.
Jamal Mashburn would be worth taking a chance on. Younger than many coaches (can relate better). NBA connections. And if he could teach the forward postion 1/2 as good as he played it we would be in great shape.

just off the top of my head
Steve Smith = Head Coach at Oak Hill Academy, has been courted by many many colleges, but never moved on. already has connections with the top talent in the country, obivously, and why not take a chance. hire would be predicated for the short term and see how it.
Happy Osborne or a coach from a smaller university/college.. this hire would be to help with the offense side of the thing.
Pete Gillien, Steve Lavin, coaches that would assume the hobbs role, possible former coach who was sucessful at doing one thing but not the whole package.. buzz peterson would fall into this catergory as well. i think he would be a good selection for his recruiting if nothing else.
I like Brett nelson as well, i think he would be a good hire, as i think promoting cameron hill would be as well..

He is an director of basketball operations at Colorado State. He also had this to say:
“My dream job would be a head coach in the SEC or ACC at a major school. I grew up right next to Kentucky so I would love to coach there or go back to my alma mater in Florida. I just think that with the SEC, I know what it's all about.”

Cameron Hill.
If you want a young, dynamic kid with a "great basketball mind" (Tubby's words) who also has a solid pedigree and some professional playing experience, then this is the guy.

I have said that for the last TWO years, i am glad someone finally listens or has felt the same way... Why this guy hasn't gotten serious consideration, i don't understand..

Everyone seems to want a name guy. Very few of us even know who Cameron Hill is. If you hire him, you also have to hire a name guy. Not saying we shouldn't, but that would not be the splash we all are anticipating.

I don't know if it's a "name guy" as much as it is somebody with connections. I think recruiting is all about who you know: how many ins you have with AAU coaches, how much pull you can get with these kids' posses so that you can break through their inner circle enough to get close to them.
So I guess I agree with you. Hill is a young guy, he's a very good speaker, he knows the game, people know his dad: but I don't know if you want a guy who is just starting out to come in and fix recruiting problems.
So Hill might be a step in the right direction, but just a step.

I thought this thread was predicated on the whole staff getting canned. each of my answers are based on how and what asst they would replace.

That's cool with me. It can be can 'em all, or replace one or two. Whatever you prefer. I say hang on to Hobbs (I can't believe I just typed that) and get rid of Rigot...as in Rigot very very far away.
Will,
I agree with you, but when was the last time this fanbase looked at things that objectively? They want a splash/sexy/name guy. That's not necessarily bad if it fills the current recruiting void.

Brett Nelson would be my number one choice. I think recruiting would improve 200% over night and the young man would work his butt off.
