Bellermine's gym was completely packed. Big turnout. Great fun for the fans.
In the small amount of action we could watch (2v2) Jasper was solid; competitive. Great size for a PG. Good, not great outside touch. I think he got a 12 on his preliminary round of 3-Point contest. His 2nd dunk in the prelim of the dunk contest was pretty nasty. I feel good about him.
Meeks also was pretty good. Got a better pairing in his 2v2 so didn't lose in first round like Jasper/Stevenson. Nice penetrator and hit a couple of midrange. Pretty similar score to Jasper in the 3-Point contest. I don't think either advanced to tonight's finals.
Stevenson is the skinniest player I think I've ever seen. Even his shoulders are extremely narrow. Hopefully they can get some weight on him. Also, he seemed a bit slow, like he has a little of that Shagari in him. The only thing about him that I felt good about, was that he had a little touch with his outside shot. He actually entered the 3-Point contest and did very poorly, but maybe from 12 feet or so he did much better. But he's certainly not someone who'll step in and contribute from Day 1.
I do have a question about the night. Towards the end of the night, a very short black man came into the gym wearing a white furry coat. With him came a woman and very large guy who must havebeen a body guard. They circled the court and sat down at one endzone courtside. Other "bodyguards" and police were near by. From far away the only person he looked like was a mix between Prince and Al Sharpton. Does anyone know who that was?
My only other observation was that when a Louisvillerecruit was announced there was big applause. When a Kentuckyrecruitwas announced there was big applause accompanied bysome boos. There were actually UofL fans whowere yelling at a Kentucky recruit during their 3-Point turn or other time.So classless.
