The Latest: Whispers: Leader emerging for five-star Williams? (http://kentucky.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=919223) — 3/3/2009
As one of the most athletic frontcourt players in the 2009 class, Latavious Williams has emerged as a top recruiting target for Georgetown. Coach John Thompson III traveled to Houston last week to spend some time...[details (http://kentucky.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=919223)]

Scout.com reports today that Vincent Williams, a PG from Miami is being recruited by UK for the class of 2009. Williams is (lets all say it together) a late riser that had a solid season playing for his South Dade High School team, averaging 26 points and 5 assists a game. Williams, listed at 6′0″, is a team leader on the floor and is a true point guard by trade. He had planned to go to prep school this year, setting up a Tyrone Nash-like battle between the Cats and prep school yet again. However in recent weeks attention has been focused on him by schools such as Marquette, UAB and Oklahoma and now he is considering going to college next season. The Cats have sent Tracy Webster to visit him, and even though no offer has yet been made, the Cats do have some interest.
The interesting part about this story to me is less Vincent Williams himself, and more the fact that it is clear the Cats want another point guard besides GJ Vilarino in the class. That says to me two things right up front: (1) Vilarino is not expected to come in and lead the team next year…..a fact that most agreed to early on, but that was disputed by some fans and (2) there is a very real likelihood that DeAndre Liggins is not on the roster next year. That possibility has been whispered about privately by virtually the media, although no one will come out and say it in public. But the Cats are clearly looking at the PG position and to take two in one class (especially with KC Ross-Miller coming in the next class) says boatloads about what they think the future of Liggins at UK is likely to be.
I know virtually nothing about Williams’ talent, as I have not seen him play. But the Cats’ other two targets (Darius Smith and Eric Bledsoe) could provide some immediate help at the PG position…..and it seems to be clear that the Cats are desperately searching for such help in the Class of 2009.

Matt speaks to what I've been thinking for some time now in #1, and I'm not all that surprised by #2:
(1) Vilarino is not expected to come in and lead the team next year…..a fact that most agreed to early on, but that was disputed by some fans and (2) there is a very real likelihood that DeAndre Liggins is not on the roster next year.
The other part I agree with is "the Cats’ other two targets (Darius Smith and Eric Bledsoe) could provide some immediate help at the PG position". Seems like these two could immediately step in and contribute. But as for Williams....he is the very definition of an "unknown". And unknowns are oftem times more "project players" than immediate contributors.
Nothing against Williams...but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Bledsoe or Smith in the worst kind of way........ :5x :5x :5x :5x

Something I must be missing here. The title of that one link says he is a 5 star, but I cant find anything to support that.
I am with you in hoping we can get Bledsoe or Smith.

I think the only positve is that at least BCG understands that Porter, Liggins, and Galloway are not the answer. I am glad he is recruiting a PG for next year. I just wish it was Wall.
