Quick notes: Wiry, huge hands, long arms, potential lockdown defender, solid passer in transition, average decision-maker in halfcourt, poor shooter, surly disposition.
Overview: Rondo was handed the keys to the Cadillac that is Kentucky basketball and drove it like he was constantly looking around for the Maybach that belonged to him.
Five months ago, he was a lock to be the first point guard taken, but his awkward jump shot leaves me wondering just how he will be able to keep defenses honest at the next level. While he has the arrogance that Rudy Gay lacks, it doesn't necessarily play out as quality leadership while he's running the point. In fact, Kentucky didn't make its move this season until Rondo was moved to the 2.
Rondo can single-handedly change a game with his defense and finishing around the basket. Dare I say, he's the new and not-really-improved version of Rod Strickland? Believe it or not, that's a compliment to Rondo. Strickland was very respected in NBA circles. He never missed around the basket, created for his teammates and defended at a high level, despite the lack of a jump shot.
If Rondo can improve on his perceived leadership issues, he can be a starting point guard while his jump shot develops.

And the Rondo bashing continues.

The guy's right on, though.
I especially like this:
"While he has the arrogance that Rudy Gay lacks, it doesn't necessarily play out as quality leadership while he's running the point."
That's as close as you can get to summing up Kentucky's season in 22 words.
Is there a link for this?

I wouldnt consider this a bash. I think its a pretty fair assesment really. Says he is ultra talented, true, lacks a jumper, true, arrogance, true (arrogance isnt always a bad thing in sports) and hasnt displayed leadership ability yet.

I don't think this is a bash at all. Pretty fair and straight forward. The Rod Strickland comparison is a pretty darn good compliment, I think (and spot on as far as I'm concerned)
Would be nice to have the link, if available.

Pretty much spot on in his analysis of Rondo.

I agree thatthe comment about Rondo's arrogance's not necessarily playing out "as quality leadership while he's running the point" was most fair and right on target. The "surly disposition" seemed a bit strong to me, though. I saw Rondo more as being very stoic and non-emotional, FWIW, which tended not to endear him to fans.
Personally, while I did not see the writer as bashing Rondo, I just hopethis thread is notused by any UK fanasan opportunity to bash Rondo. In my opinion, Rondo received more than his share of criticism for this season's disappointments, especially criticism of a personal nature. Just my humble opinon on the matter.

I think it's a pretty spot-on assessment.

Wow. Gottlieb nails one. This is as spot-on an analysis as you'll see of Rajon.

"average decision-maker in halfcourt" was being a little bit generous. The rest of it I agree with.

What is bashing about that review. Its spot on in areas pointed out by this board many times. he will be a better pro because he'll have some athletes around him that can react to his quickness and compensate/cover when he gambles on steals. At this point he still can't shoot. Hopefully he'll work on that. I wish him well and wish that he'd have had a better supporting cast with him this year.
