I was wondering if anyone could clue me in on the chances of getting either one of these players (if not both)... sounds like Wright is a really good possibility, but i thought i'd just throw it out there for you recruiting guru's and not assume...

AS I have been saying for 3 months...
Brandan will be here.
AS for the other big person ...
Tubby wants Deon Thompson, not Young or Stevenson. If he can get Thompson that is the first choice... Thad is second and Perry is third - so to speak.
---
The kicker is that he wants Meeks as well. He wants to sign 5. How this will all be played out is... well. I dont know.

I've been getting the same info on Brandon for 2-3 months from a UNC guy. He says if UK doesn't land Wright, an investigation should be launched. We need to sign Thompson for low-post purposes. Wright is not a banger by any stretch. Young/Stevenson are good options to fall back on, while Young isn't much of a defender/banger either.

The problem is that Deon is sliding back to UCLA and other west coast schools.
He is still going to visit MM... I wish I could say that would clinch it... BUT I JUST DONT KNOW

The #3 center in this class. behind Oden and Spencer Hawes. Deon rocketed up the charts this summer after dominating performances in the shoe camp and 2 major AAU events he was in.
6'8 1/2" 260. really awesome in the low blocks and plays hard all the time.
Jumper is only good to 10-12 feet but someone this strong on the blocks doesnt need the jumper imho.

6-8 250 kids should not be taking 15 foot jumpers........

He better be able to hit one from 10-12. Did I say 15?

Ya ever hear of Karl Malone...or more recently Jamaal Mashburn? A mid range jumpshot might not be a necessity, but it will sure keep your opponent honest.

Remember when lots of players could hit 10-15' jumpers?
Now it's a 3 pointer or a dunk...
Back when we had Turpin and Bowie, Joe B. used to run a play where Melvin curled from the baseline off a pick up to the free throw line for a consistent 15 ft jumpshot attempt. It seemed available anytime they wanted to run it.

And Bowie shot from the now 3 pt line and hit regularly...
So did Kenny Walker... So did Scott Padgett.
So did Antione Walker...

I think if you play BASKETBALL you should be able to shoot the ball... at least from 15 feet no matter what position you play. That is just my opinion. Oh yeah, and also make atleast 8 out of 10 freethrows consistantly... they are free! my favorite big man that can shoot... Tim Duncan! I hate the Spurs, but the guy is just one of the greatest.
As far a recruiting goes..... dog chasing tail IMO... Greeeeeaaaag.;)

I don't recall Kenny Walker taking a shot outside 12 feet EVER.

SEC Champtionship. 1984. Vs Auburn (Chuck Person and Charles Barkley). kenny Hit the jumper from 17-18 ft just out side the circle to win the game.
In the NCAA tournament when we got beat by LSU (playing them for the 4th time that year), during the Western Ky game that year. almost all came from the FT line or thereabouts.
just two games to jog your memory.
I recall seeing Walker playing in Rupp against Notre Dame I think and he would take the ball to the free throw line jump 28' in the air and hit a jumper time after time.
Well maybe not 28'.

:cry:So true...the mid-range jumper is a lost art...the 78 championship game is proof positive of how effective it can be.
