I was never a big "Star Trek" fan. I'm sure part of it is age, and the fact that I believe (and have grown with this belief as I age) that William Shatner might be the most ridiculous overactor I've ever seen.
That being said, over the last couple of years, I've become a "Star Trek: TNG" and "Star Trek: DS9" fan. (Don't get me wrong. I'm by no means a "Trekkie", but I try to catch them when I can.)
Anyhow.....
There's a show on the History Channel right now about how the 'gadgets' that were shown on the original series were inspiration for (quite possibly) the smartest people in the world, and how they developed them. (Example: Ion drive for space travel and cell phones.)
Taking my "Shatner bias" in account, it's actually pretty entertaining, and it's kind of cool to see the development of these fictional 'gadgets', and how people took their inspiration from that to develop things that a lot of us take for granted. (Not that I have an Ion drive anywhere.......when I win the lottery.)
Thought I would throw it out there if anyone is interested.....plus, I've got to give "the hairpiece" (my term for Shatner) props in that he's actually entertaining and amusing, for once.
