Back in September, I had a pretty bad sprain in a basketball game where I tore all of the ligaments and tendons in my ankle. They categorized it as a 2nd degree sprain. Third degree is surgery. Like most people, they told me they wish I would have broke it. I was on crutches for a few weeks and out of basketball for about 2 1/2 months. now, i have a brace that is one of those tie up the front with steel threads in the brace. The problem is now that I have a new pair of shoes to give me more stability, it is starting to bother me. it pushes on the ankle bone and is very uncomfortable. The ankle is still weak but I need something that I can play ball in without being uncomfortable. I would love to spend $50 to get one of the good ones, but I am on a college budget. Any reccomendations. Thanks

Not much help probably, but I had the same kind of brace when I played and some of the same irritition... I wore a golf sock over my other socks to cover the ankle and keep those ribs from hittin' the bruises. Didn't really work well though. Probably would have benefitted from not wearing a hightop on the side with the brace... but, that just wouldn't have looked cool enough.

Funny to think about that... by my senior year I had both ankle's taped for practice and games, 2 pairs of socks on, brace on the right ankle, high tops... I was lugging around 10 lbs on each foot:D.

I sprained my ankle about 2 months ago... Actually had a chip fracture on the top of my foot where the Legament pulled the bone way. One of the guys that saw it happen said that my foot laid complete flat against my leg when I rolled it. My toes turned blue from the bruising.

I love docs and ankle sprains... Most of the time they tell you to Ice it stay off it for a few days and go on.

I bought and it has worked.. For like 19 bucks a NexCare velcro brace at Target.... I strap it on tight as I can bare, and then pull my shoes as tight as I can around it. Just took a bit to get used to the feel but not iritation. I was playing full speed in a week. I am a bit crazy and have always played through alot of pain. My wife just shakes her head.

Now I have to have knee surgery on the My 16th for an injury that happened a week and 1 1/2 after spraining my ankle.....

I would suggest getting a piece foam and put over your ankle bone where it is irritating it. Something like the foam egg crates that go on the beds to cushion it. Dont get it too thick so you cant put your shoe on but this would work the best. If your sprian was that bad I hope your doctor sent you to physical therapy. Most therapy places will keep some type of foam that you could pad it with, I hate to tell you to buy a foam mattress pad to get one litte piece. If you went to therapy just call them up and tell them what the problem is and ask if they have some type of foam or something to cushion your ankle bone. I'm sure they would be more than glad to help you out if they have anything.
