One of the top guards in the Southern part of the country. High school has produced a high number of high-major players. Young man can score and go off the dribble. More comfortable as a scorer than as a runner of the team.

Scouting Report

Joe Jackson is a good floor leader and good at being a natural point guard. His speed gives him the ability to blow by his defenders and get into the lane with ease. Once in the lane, Jackson can finish at the rim or use his ability to read the defenses to find the open man for an easy lane to the basket. On the defensive end, he anticipates the pass to get into the lanes and steal the ball. His speed helps in this area too, allowing him to be a pesky defender constantly buzzing around his opponent. Jackson’s size will always be what helps him most and hurts him most. He’ll get his speed and explosiveness from being small but will also get shoved around a bit by bigger defenders. His deep shot is pretty good right now but could use some improvement. Jackson will also need to get used to pulling up for a mid-range jumper or floater instead of insisting on going all the way to the rack. This should give his game the versatility that it is lacking at this point. If he adds strength and versatility, he’ll be a major major threat at the collegiate level.

Recruiting Report

Ohio State, Memphis and Tennessee are going after Jackson as hard as anyone at this point, but with OSU recently signing Aaron Craft, another 2010 point guard, expect them to fall down the list a bit. Jackson is from Memphis and grew up a fan of his hometown school. He has admitted that Memphis was probably the leaders for his recruitment when Cal was there, but when the coach made the move to Kentucky, Jackson’s interest in Kentucky followed. Calipari will make him a priority and will really turn on the heat if the Cats can’t get Brandon Knight (but remember the Bledsoe/Wall situation, a yes from one doesn’t necessarily mean a no from the other). Jerry Meyer has been quoted as saying, “If Kentucky strikes out on Knight, then coach John Calipari will have a great shot at Jackson.” His top four in early June, before the point guard signing by OSU, were Tennessee, Ohio State, Memphis and Kentucky. Duke is also interested and Arkansas has offered.

Best video of Joe, notice the next level of speed that others don’t have. Also notice where Joe should stop and pull up but, instead, goes all the way to the rim:

One of the top five point guards in the Class of 2010, Jackson said he has more than a dozen scholarship offers. Jackson has a longstanding relationship with Memphis and new coach Josh Pastner, while Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio State, Syracuse, Duke, Texas, Villanova and Connecticut are other schools that he mentioned.

"It's wide open," Jackson proclaimed. "Everybody still has a chance."

Jackson had some mixed reviews of Kentucky and new coach John Calipari, saying on Thursday that "we know where we stand with each other. I know he wants me."

"What do you not know about Kentucky," Jackson continued. "They have produced a lot of NBA players over the years. Now, they have coach Cal and the No. 1 recruiting class (in 2009)."

But on Friday in another interview with a group of reporters, Jackson said was "having second thoughts" about UK because he the new staff had been targeting Brandon Knight as the No. 1 point guard prospect in the '10 class.

See Bledsoe did the exact same thing but Joe is not stupid and this could lead to I hate to say this Tennessee or Memphis sneaking in and snatching Jackson away from UK like Memphis did with Barton:shrug1:

I feel ya, but if Cal can land Brandon Knight, the blow will be softened substantially.

This is primetime for the AAU circuit and the next few day should provide a number of storylines. Dustin is still in Las Vegas and we have Beisner and Rob Gidel in Orlando. The biggest news of the day is that all-everything Joe Jackson will visit UK during Midnight Madness. There was once a time that Midnight Madness was the opportunity for UK to bring all the big name players for one event. Pitino famously brought in Brand, Burgess, Battier and others for one event, and all ended up at Duke. Tubby had Lucas, Patterson, Stewart and others for his one night affair. I have been told by folks at UK that this is the plan again and to expect “a number of stars” for Midnight Madness this year. Joe Jackson will certainly now be one of those.

Memphis point guard Joe Jackson scored 20 points and was named MVP as the Memphis Magic beat the New England Playaz 64-62 to win the adidas Super 64 event in Las Vegas.

Here’s an interview from The Memphis Roar with Jackson, a Memphis native who Tigers head coach Josh Pastner has spent a lot of time recruiting.

“That’s all he’s been preaching since he got to Memphis, even when he was an assistant coach, that I’m the No. 1 guy,” Jackson told the Memphis Commercial Appeal of Pastner. “He’s relentless. He doesn’t give up. He wants you to commit right on the spot every time he talks to you. That’s how he is. I’m just speechless because he wants me so bad. He comes harder than anybody.”

Jackson gives his list as UConn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Memphis and Kansas.

Asked when he will decide, Jackson said “Probably by the half way point of the high school basketball season…or late spring.”
