I think at least 1 of our current players redshrt this year...Stewart..Stevenson...Harris...or Harrelson...just a hunch but possible...Stevenson might really benefit from another year of practice and building up strength and weight

I was thinking yesterday that i would like to see Harrellson redshirt and get better. I think Perry should play out and move on.If Stewart can't play the 3 spot, i would think that he may need to move on as well though i do like his leaping and atheltic ability along with a pretty nice jump shot.Stewart needs to prove that he can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim to have a chance imo..................

I would be surprised if ANYONE redshirted...just doesn't happen that often anymore.

I think Stewart and Harrelson are both gone and Harris and Stevenson will (and should) receive only limited playing time.

Stevenson's had three years to get stronger and it hasn't happened. We don't need him sticking around any longer than he has to.

Red shirting would not solve anything other than playing time. They would still count against the 13 total scholarships allowed.

Well, I'm going to remember Perry for that monster dunk in the NIT ..... that is until he does something better. Didn't know the dude had it in him. :icon_lol:

You are correct in terms of the scholarship limitation. But another "problem" is that we could potentially lose the bulk of the team after next year, either to graduation or to the NBA. Next year our team will consist of seniors, and potential NBA-draft players. So 2010 could be a nearly total "reloading". Redshirting someone who would otherwise graduate next year would help the transition in 2010. Just a thought.

The ideal thing would be for Harrellson to take a sabbatical. IOW not enroll for 2009 but come back in 2010 with two years left.

I tend to agree with you.

Now that's an interesting idea. He could also agree to go off scholarship next year, redshirt, and then come back (on scholarship) the following two years.

I would be shocked is any player would agree to do that

Me too. Never heard of anything like that happening.

He wouldn't be allowed to practice with the team. How could you get better, get better and get your body ready unless you're on the court every day?

I just think Perry needs to play in a more uptempo offense to utilize his athleticism, instead of playing slow down half court offense which would make his lack of strength more noticeable. I think his hands are still a huge deficit in his game, but I dont know if theres any drills to improve this. In this new offense he might not work though, if he cant handle the ball

Harrelson has indicated that he really wants to stay with the team. In that case, he might be interested in being a walk-on and letting Coach give his scholly to someone else. I'm not sure of his family's financial situation, but this might be an option.

Stewart, I hate to say it....should probably be shown the door. and not because i don't think he can ball....but because I'm not sure he has the mental drive/focus to really help this team. and I like the guy....would love to see him flourish.....but you got to admit, Billy gave him several chances and he ought to be counting his blessings that he's even still on the team.

Stevenson will be a help for us next year. unlike this past season , he will not be relied on to do things he can't, and play against guys who have 50 pounds on him. he'll see a significant drop in minutes, and will likely have his most successful and productive year as a Cat by being a spark off the bench and coming in for late game offensive/defensive substitutions. Come senior day, we'll be sad to see him go.

I kind of doubt we'll see any redshirts from the current players. Harrelson would be paying an out of state tuition that would be pretty steep.
Stewart....I can see him redshirting, but not sitting out. Same with Liggins, but I think DeAndre already hears the clock ticking.

And why wouldn't he be allowed to practice with the team? He would be a redshirt walk-on and on the team. No different than any other walk on as far as I can see.

However, I've never heard of anyone doing this either and agree it's very unlikely.
