STRENGTHS- Explosiveness, Perimeter Shot, Speed/Quickness
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT- Defensive Presence, Post Play
One of the elite athletes in the country. Leslie is comfortable facing the basket and his jump shot is much improved. He plays well above the rim, handles well for his size and attacks. Super finisher. Has loads of talent and natural ability.

Calipari in Raleigh Tomorrow…but Not for Wall (http://new.kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=17882)
by Matt Jones

A little birdie (well not really a little birdie, as it was Bomani) tells me that John Calipari will be in Raleigh tomorrow to see 2010 forward CJ Leslie work out. Leslie is ranked #51 in the 2010 Rivals rankings and is a 6′7″ forward with inside-outside skills (get used to that description). Calipari is supposed to come tonight to see Leslie tomorrow.
And oh yeah, he is John Wall’s high school teammate. Coincidence….?

Thanks for the thread and posting the videos, Rick
But I have a question: Shouldn't the "Next Garnett" be rated a little higher than 4 Stars? :icon_lol:
Ya know....I understand how these videos are put together and what the person putting them together is trying to emphasize and finds impressive. But truthfully...it's hard to watch a 4+ minute long video of a guy doing nothing but dunking. OK, OK...he can block shots and dunk....we get it!!! But can we see a little more than something like 3 jump shots and 45 dunks and 35 blocked shots?!?!? Maybe a few passes and steals, more mid range jumpers, etc.
Oh well, just a thought. That would be nice, though.
But thanks for bringing Leslie to my and everyone's attention, he looks like a promising prospect...

John Wall’s high school teammate and #45 player in the country, CJ Leslie, had a strong showing in the first day of the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions the other day, putting in 18 points and 6 blocks. Leslie, a 6-9 four-star power forward who got a visit from Calipari last month, was called a “big-time athlete” by Jerry Meyer, who also said he relished being the go-to guy for his team. Leslie currently holds offers from NC State and Arizona State, according to Rivals.

CJ is "definitely" going to be visiting UK during the summer. Sounds pretty promising with him.

Yeah it's pretty awesome how we go from no visits to our campus constantly having a different recruit on it checking our campus and facilities out. I'm loving it.Like you said Wildcat Fan we should start seeing more commits once the visits start to begin taking place with recruits after their camps and AAU tourney's:icon_mrgreen:

Best scorers
3. C.J. Leslie (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=46148), 2010, (Word of God/Raleigh, N.C.) Leslie is an explosive, active athlete who is a big-time finisher when he gets in the paint. He has a quick first step to the basket; he stays low on the drive to finish high above the rim. He gets points from finishing dump-off passes from his teammates' penetration along with climbing on the offensive glass. You will see him at the foul line quite a bit, as he is an aggressive scorer who is always attacking the basket with his wiry, strong body. He needs to work on his perimeter jumper from deep and a pull-up, midrange jumper.

You think Leslie is a top priority for Coach Cal or a back-up plan to Ferguson? Either kid would be a big win in the recruiting game for UK, I think Leslie is being recruited by UNC and I've read that IU and UL are after Ferguson hard.:widcat:

Position: Power Forward (Could be athletic slasher or big man in DDM)

Scout Ranking: #3 PF, #13 Overall
Scouting Report
CJ has the athleticism and explosiveness that can make a big man a star. He likes to model his game after Kevin Garnett and, so far, he is doing a good job at it. CJ can knock down the perimeter shot or beat his man off the dribble. As he continues to grow, scouts would like to see him develop his post game more. Right now he doesn’t have the ability to put his back to the basket against big men and score consistently. If he can bring that part of his game up the level of the rest of his skills, he’d be the complete package. On the defensive end, his athleticism and large wing span will be his best friend but he needs to use these tools to his advantage more often. He has the talent to make some highlight reel blocks when his timing and effort are in full swing. One of the things that really impressed me with CJ’s performance at the NBA camp was the way that he is coming into his own as a team leader. CJ was very vocal on the court and begged his team to play at the top of their abilities. He is true competitor with all the talent one could ask for and that gives him a very high ceiling.
Recruiting Report
In 2007, CJ committed to play for Sidney Lowe and NC State. This spring, CJ reopened his recruitment, saying that he just felt like he didn’t take enough time to look at all his options. Since then, CJ has visited the campuses of North Carolina and Arizona State. When talking about some of the potential future visits he’ll take, he said, “Florida, Maryland, Kentucky definitely, Wake Forest definitely.” CJ has also said that all of the ACC schools, except for Duke, and Memphis were recruiting him. John Wall has been talking to him about Kentucky and CJ has commented about how much John has been enjoying his time in Lexington. In a recent interview with Kentucky Sports Report, CJ said that the visit with Kentucky is pretty much set except for an exact date. He is working on squeezing the visit somewhere into his busy AAU schedule. With Patrick Patterson and Demarcus Cousins almost certainly leaving after this season, CJ Leslie would be the perfect versatile big man to step in and play right away in Calipari’s offense.
You-Scout
Being on one of the most exciting basketball teams in the country, there are plenty of good CJ Leslie videos out there. Feel free to post some in the comments.

I'm nowhere near qualified to answer this question...but I'll throw my two cents in.
Personally...I think Cal might be a little more interested in Leslie than Ferguson. Just my own personal thought. And the reason is...Leslie translates to a pure PF at the college level. Dominique is a hybrid forward who WANTS to play the 3 (SF). With Darius Miller, Darnell Dodson, and Jon Hood on board the next few years.....but the likelihood that Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins could well be gone after this year....I think that a big man/PF is more of what Cal would like than another 3. I don't know if that thinking would change if Adreine Payne commits commits to the Cats....if that happens, we might see more effort being put into Ferguson at that point. But I think he is definitely interested in and likes both guys.

C.J. Leslie, who was a teammate of Kentucky freshman-to-be John Wall at Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God, has not narrowed down his list of potential colleges just yet.
But the 6-foot-8 Leslie - one of the elite athletes nationally in the Class of 2010 - said at the NBA Players Association Camp last month that he plans on taking a visit to Lexington.
"(Wall) has been in my ear about Kentucky," Leslie said. "I will look at them for sure. I am not real familiar with Kentucky, but I am with coach (John) Calipari. I am looking forward to getting on campus and seeing what it's all about."
A former North Carolina State commitment, Leslie is also looking at North Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Florida and Maryland. He recently took a visit to North Carolina.
"I want to make the best decision for me," he said, noting he wouldn't commit until "whenever I find the best school for me. That's where I will be."
As far as Wall, Leslie had a comment for the UK fans:
"If you haven't seen him," Leslie said. "You will see him and you will be amazed."

C.J. Leslie is still open in his recruitment, but he did provide some insight into his recruiting. Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida, Maryland and Connecticut are the five schools recruiting him the hardest, and two of them stand out to him. [Those are UNC and UK, FWIW]

why are other people on other kentucky forums upset that this info linked? said it was bad for UK and smearing someone's name claiming info had been taken out of context or something?
There's a feud between two sites. The site that posted the info, could've taken it out of a premium area of another site. Of course this is all a rumor and there isn't anything set in stone.

This week will bring a little something new to the Kentucky Wildcats Examiner.
Along with news, updates, and headlines that come with the day, I will take an in depth look at some of the current basketball recruiting prospects that UK head coach John Calipari and staff are chasing.
The 2010 class has a ton of superb athletes and UK fans seem to want them all. While we all wish that could happen, Calipari is working on getting some of the nation’s top talent to sign with the Wildcats. With recent speculation, I’ll begin with a player that many UK fans have been clamoring for since they first got wind of his interest. So without further ado, here is your first installment of “Recruiting 101.”
The first installment of “Recruiting 101” will focus on 2010 power forward C.J. Leslie. Hailing from North Carolina, Leslie suited up with former teammate and current UK point guard John Wall and has shown a high interest in playing college basketball for the Cats.
7dZZAFIM6DA&feature=player_embedded
Leslie is an interesting prospect for the Cats, as he is looking to make two recruiting visits in the month of October. The Cats interest with Leslie is mutual and the fact that he and John Wall were both teammates in high school bodes well for Kentucky. UK and North Carolina seem to be in the lead for his services according to Rivals.com. I think it may be premature, but some say Leslie reminds them of future NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

Ryan Harrow, a point guard who just signed with NC State, said Leslie will go there to play by his side. I quote CJ, "This is definitely a plus", when asked about the signing.
Saying "this" instead of "that" worries me... That comment sounds just like what most guys would say when they are welcoming a new player onto the team.
I hope I'm reading into his comment too much :icon_confused:

Lexington trip a hit with prized recruit C.J. Leslie
By Jody Demling (jdemling@courier-journal.com) • jdemling@courier-journal.com • January 11, 2010
LEXINGTON, Ky. — As one of the nation's most-sought high school basketball seniors, C.J. Leslie has been on visits to colleges around the country.
But the 6-foot-8 forward from Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God, a top-15-ranked prospect, admitted last weekend's visit to the University of Kentucky was a bit different.
“I'm definitely feelin' Kentucky,” Leslie said. “You have some of the greatest fans around here. I feel the love.”

I'd say we have a very good shot but he doesn't seem to be "ours to lose" at this point. NC State is going after him hard as well. I expect him to decide sooner rather than later, but who knows.
