Jeremy Tyler has decided to forgo his senior year of high school and turn pro.
Yes, high school.
This isn’t some sign of the sporting apocalypse or a teenager with an overvalued sense of worth. It’s a daring, trailblazing yet well-thought-out move that challenges the bizarre way America develops amateur basketball players.
Tyler is an agile 6-11, 260-pound San Diego native, the nation’s top player in the junior class who already committed to the University of Louisville. He’s as close to a can’t-miss NBA prospect as there is; a tantalizing mix of size, speed and smarts. Scouts project him to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft, when he’s eligible under the NBA’s age requirements.
In the meantime, Jeremy Tyler’s options were to:

Wow, since the premature celebration after a sweet sixteen victory over a pathetic Arizona team, the ville has taken a beating. What next?

First of all, Tyler was not a "signee". He was a verbal commitment.
Secondly, as you all will be finding out soon, do not count kids as being on your team until they show up for classes.
As far as the "beating" goes, keep up the wishful thinking. We are right we we want to be. A perpetual top 20 team that has a chance to be special in any given year.

I hate to break the news to you TB, but your coach has NEVER won a NCAA championship.
Duke better fire their bum of a coach, he has only won one in the last 18 years.
I see this as bad news, but not for Louisville. Bad for College basketball..
If kids of his caliber can skip their senior year in high school, make money and in two years jump ship to the NBA, it's bound to happen again.
I hope it doesn't happen again, as I heard Brandon Jennings is having a helluva time playing overseas. Coaches are a lot tougher and demand more of out of you than any one year coach would in the NCAA.

In case you hadn't noticed, the only NCAA championship YOUR coach has won was when he was at Kentucky.
He has NOT been able to replicate the same successes at Louisville.
Our coach's teams have advanced farther and have been ranked and seeded higher than your coach's teams.
Two years ago, our coach was a missed three-pointer away from a national title. Your coach's Louisville teams haven't even made it to the title game.
In other words, you don't have a leg to stand on.
As usual.

Aw, that's the best their lame spin department can come up with to get in a dig at Coach Cal. They don't have the marquee coach anymore so they're trying to imply that we "settled" for JC when we really wanted RP back, which is a bunch of hoo-hah.
It's killing their soul that when they were making their short lived run in the NCAA's, the lead story across the country and on ESPN was not about their precious Cardinals, but it was about Kentucky. And no one wanted to talk to Ricky Poo, every sports outlet in the country was trying to get an interview with the NEW KENTUCKY COACH.
There's also the little detail that everybody and their brother is predicting UK to be (at MINIMUM) in the top ten next season and Louisville isn't even ranked in the polls that count.
But you see, they'll discount that because even though every bit of what I said is truth, they won't want to hear it because it doesn't make the Cardinals look good and (Oh, my heavens!) it makes UK look REAL GOOD. History, records, and facts only matter to them when it makes the Cardinals look good or they can spin it to make UK look bad.
Okay, get ready, UK fans...it's lame comeback time!..http://ui.crawlersmileys.com/files/smileys/07/02/11667.giff?id=11667 (http://www.crawlersmileys.com/?d=1&sm=Lot%20of%20laugh%3A11667&)

I assumed that was the case but I thought I would ask. That is a pretty stupid nickname. They have done much better with the past couple of coachs. Come on UL fan you can do better than that.

I agree, but in fairness to Yule, he's not alone. I tried listening to the Louisville call-in shows during the tournament hoping to get ESPN and/or some scores and every other U of L fan caller was using the term.

that is too funny...most of my UL friends are aren't happy at all they Cal is our new coach..they know what he can do and they know what Pitino has NOT done....Jealousy is the key word here my friends
Well, to be fair. Cals achievements don't measure up to Pitinos achievements.

The only achievements Pitino has had of note are as the UK coach. He has not gotten remotely close to replicating his UK successes at Louisville, which is what we're focusing on. Coach Cal's achievements at Memphis alone far outweigh anything Pitino has done at Loserville.

that UL fans have to use Pitino's accomplishments while at UK as smack, but UK fans can't use Calipari's success the past 5 seasons at Memphis. Double standard?

It's been that way since the smack board started. I've said it before and I'm going to keep saying it. In the Cardinal mindset, the only time you can use history, records, or facts of any kind is when it makes U of L look good or they can twist it around to make UK look bad in some form or fashion. Then, when you call them on it or turn it against them, they get all bent out of shape about it.

I would say they aren't that far off and Cal is on his way up while Rick is on his way down.
Who's to say that?
He has taken UL to two straight Elite Eights, which in my eyes, and most rational UK fans eyes, that's twice as much as we've done in the past 8 years.
I'm not defending UL by any means, and I love Calipari, but you can't compare achievements.

Calipari won his FF and made it to the title game

Oh, so any UK fan that doesn't agree with you is irrational, is that it? Well, the implication is not appreciated. And if you're going to make blanket statements like that, you need to at least be correct, which with all due respect, you simply are NOT.
Here is a synopsis of what Kentucky did under Tubby Smith, which covers the majority of the 8 year period you're referring to:
Smith led Kentucky to one National Championship in 1998, a perfect 16-0 regular season conference record in 2003, five SEC regular season championships (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005) and five SEC Tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004), with six Sweet Sixteen finishes and four Elite Eight finishes (1998, 1999, 2003, 2005) in his nine seasons. He totaled 100 wins quicker than any other Wildcat coach except Hall of Famer Adolph Rupp (http://hoopedia.nba.com/index.php?title=Adolph_Rupp), reaching the plateau in 130 games.
You can believe whatever you like, that's your option, but the fact is that Rick Pitino has not even remotely come anywhere close to that in his NINE years at U of L. That's all there is to it.

I didn't read it that way. But it certainly points out how fans on both sides of the aisle are blinded by bias at times and utilize the same irrational thought we accuse the other side of using - except WE justify it as being loyal fans.
Exhibited in Vol and Card fans, it's ridiculous baseless chatter.
And yes, I'm fully aware that it goes both ways, but I'm not concerned if a Card or vol fan comes on here and is hypocritical. It's beneath US to do it, however.
Example: Some of us have ribbed and ridiculed UofL and Vol fans because they're players have a penchant for tats and headbands.
I suspect now that we'll be receiving our share of such players, we'll embrace it as the current trend that it is rather than indicative of thuggery (WRT to the tats.) :icon_lol:
FWIW, It's never bothered me that a player has tats and wears the trendy accessories (headband, compression sleeves, etc.) so long as they can achieve UK standards.

You make some valid points, Surveyor, and for PJ's benefit, if he didn't intend that as a put down, then I retract my previous statement. But this whole notion that Pitino has done these great and mighty things since he's been at U of L as compared to what Calipari has done is silly. He's (Pitino) only won two conference championships, one in C-USA and one this season in the Big East, and he made it to one Final Four and one sweet sixteen. Granted, that's not too shabby, but UK's record for OTS's last six years alone surpassed that. And saying that somehow Coach Cal's record at Memphis wasn't equal to if not better that what RP has done, along with the implication that UK has somehow or another been in this black hole and hasn't accomplished anything in the last eight years, and can't be compared is simply asinine.

You can't compare coach achievements? That is what I was talking about! They have similar achievements over the span of their careers. Both went to the NBA both have had final four teams. Pitino has taken three teams to final fours Cal has taken two I believe. Pretty similar not completely the same Pitino obviously had more achievements but he has also been around longer.
