Maybe not of the black op's variety but still..come on! This is Kentucky basketball and with all the two years of crap the media gave over Billy G's hiring and firing and all points in between..and the hiring of Coach Cal and all the positive news regarding his recruiting, coaching, ability to reunite the bluebloods, etc..just where is the first mention of 5 star point guard recruit Eric Bledsoe's on campus visit this weekend??!! I mean come on! Memphis press makes him a rockstar and our press do not even acknowledge his existence. There has been media following and fawning all over Coach Cal's every move and now we have a top point guard on campus and zero coverage. It isn't like we don't need a point guard or something. It isn't like John Wall's every move hasn't been documented by the state media and our need for him. Well crap it just may be a conspiracy.:thumbdn:

I think it's a complete joke that Memphis actually interviewed Bledsoe during his visit.

UK asks that while a player is on visit, that media does not conduct interviews, talks to the player, or inquire about any information until he has left his official visit.

I fully expect him to commit to UK though, along with Wall.

Definitely not looking for an interview at all. Just an acknowlegement that he is here even would be something.

Yeah, I think KSR had something on it. Though, I haven't seen many outlets report anything besides commitments...so I don't expect to see anything the media until early this week.

Not sure that the media should be reporting this. :shrug1: It's a recruit visiting UK, not really that big a deal. Message boards like this, places like KSR, Jody Demling's blog, John Clay's blog, have all reported it. Who are you looking for to talk about?

Memphis is treating him that way because they don't have a shot at Wall now.

But I would happy with either, and thrilled with both :icon_biggrin:

John Clay didn't have anything on it. Tipton of course not even mentioning it today or ever. Demling had an oh-by-the-way comment last Wed. that he was going to visit memphis and then us. KSR? They have nothing pertinent. And I am glad we have already turned back the clock so fast and so far that it is "no big deal" that a much needed 5 star point guard recruit is visiting. Never mind.

I almost feel the same way, because if Clyde was still here, Tipton, Demling and a couple CJ writers would've been on it.

I'm not sure I'd like to see it reported by WLEX or WLKY, but a major UK media outlet like TCP or LHL could do a small article on it. He's a great player, and if he does qualify, could be a potential game changer for who he decides to play for.

I think we will hear much more after the visit is over.

Agreed. I think the coaching staff is keeping quiet for several reasons. Including where the scholarship will come from should Bledsoe alone sign, much less Wall . Current 'rumors' on different sites have Bledsoe as indeed qualifying under NCAA guidelines. True? who knows....I hope so.
All kinds of possiblities are out there...I suppose one might be the question if Bledsoe would be agreeable to redshirt for the good of the team should Wall come to town.

Monday or Tuesday should have some news.

Yeah, honestly...I've been a bit surprised at the LACK of information concerning Bledsoe's visit. I didn't expect A TON of info...but definitely more than what we've heard and has been reported (which is little to nothing).....

I read somewhere that the Universit(ies) have been asked by the NCAA to tone down the media coverage of recruiting. Not an order, because if so some schools would get hammered (see Memphis) for sticking a microphone in a recruits face before he even got breakfast. Kentucky has reached the point that if the NCAA event requests something quietly, they
almost do handstands to even over-comply. I can understand though. There's enough pressure without the local news wanting to know your decision before you get out of the gym good.

I agree that it seems like (as far as information goes) the Bledsoe visit has been put on the back burner.

I think it would be different if the derby wasn't this weekend, but Matt Jones, for some reason, just isn't sayin much about it.

Hopefully, we will know Wednesday, as Bledsoe has said he will make a decision on that day. :5x:icon_mrgreen::thumbup:

This has the to be one the funniest set of posts I have read in awhile. The university of memphis did not STICK a microphone in Bledsoe's face. It was local tv stations who sent the reporters to talk to EB. The university cannnot tell a news stations who they can interview. As a memphis fan I generally dont mind the way Kentucky fans have been acting since hiring Cal,its a great program, but some of you need to get off your high horse. So you dont interview recruits, well good for you. By the way, if I had to guess the players coming to visit your school probably would find it pretty exciting that when they get off the plane there is tv cameras waiting on them.

Well, I can already see everyone is going to get along with you great.

It speaks great for the Kentucky program when fans of other basketball teams even frequent our message boards.

You make no sense whatsoever. Still the school hosting the recruit meets the recruit at the airport and is responsible for them as soon as they get inside. I doubt the media rushed the tarmac as soon as the stairs hit the runway. The school let the media have access or else they wouldn't have been able to talk to him period.

Ironically, Dick Gabriel and the CJ's Brett Dawson (on WLAP's nightly sports show) have just been discussing their surprise about the Memphis reporters' "recruiting" Bledsoe -- and how it is indeed different with reporters in Lexington. They noted that UK Athletics is careful that the reporters not even be aware when a recruit is arriving at an airport.

Very interesting post, Poodoo. I prefer the cautious approach when it comes to recruiting. After someone commits is the time for publicity, IMHO.

Interesting, considering media isn't allowed within 10 feet of a recruit while he's visiting the University of Kentucky, unless decided otherwise. Memphis media must love recruiting for other schools.
