Today is the first day in my attempt to quit smoking... to put it bluntly, it sucks... I'm sure there are some out there who have done it before... any suggestions?!

Hypnosis?

My sister- and brother-in-law tried this and it worked. (Actually, after a tragedy in my family last year, my sister-in-law started up again. But that was about five years after she'd been hypnotized.)

They both swear by it. There are always flyers in Louisville advertising some hypnosis session at a hotel somewhere.

Hypnosis might work. I knew a girl one time that did the weigh loss hypnosis. One day the EMS had to come to her office because she had not eaten enough and passed out.

Join a support group...misery loves company. Seriously, the support of your peers is one of the most effective methods for beating an addiction whether it be alcohol, tobacco, or food .

Don't go about it cold turkey either.Nicotine is a drug and one that you have to wean yourself off of for the best chances of success.

Well, i'm chewing nicotine gum, and honestly, it makes my stomach hurt... that's why i'm kinda seeking other alternatives... i've thought about hypnosis.. and i'm just way to busy for a support group... wait a second... i think i kind of posted this with that in mind!

I quit cold turkey 13 years ago this past Halloween. It was easy after seeing my Dad die from it. You can do it.:thumbup

Supposedly the best results from medical support are with Xyban+patch, especially if you go for group therapy... like you say, that might be more than some folks are looking for though.

Also supposedly, the gum isn't the preferred way, because you are just replacing one habit and one addiction with another habit/addiction, albeit one that isn't nearly as harmful... but, I think the idea is to get away from reacting to a nicotine craving regularly, so the gum doesn't seem like the ideal way to go.It works for lots of folks though, so whatever floats the boat.

If I remember correctly, nicotine is out of your system pretty quickly and the physical craving goes away pretty quickly, and so if you give it a day or two I bet you'll feel better...

Try exercising. Regular gum or chewing on a pen or seeds.

One good suggestion to keep you on the wagon, but that is likely to upset your stomach more than the gum is to google image lung cancer and heart disease and study what you find.
