Four-star Norcross (Ga.) guard Jodie Meeks (http://kentucky.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=28971) gave his verbal commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats during a press conference at his school on Monday.

"Jodie just wrapped up his announcement," said the player's father, Orestes Meeks. "I think the gist of his statement was that he's very excited and it's a privilege to play for a program like Kentucky."

I like his fathers attitude. Thats the kind of player we need, one who feels its a privelege to have Kentucky across his chest. Welcome aboard fella.

We will continue having great guards at UK for years. Meeks, Porter, Williams and Jasper will be part of the changing of the guards from Rondo, Sparks, Bradley and Moss.

2 fine commits this week folks.

Welcome aboard fella.Yeah, his dad has seemed to be pro-UK from all of his comments. And he's very careful to say all the politically correct things/ But I get a bit nervous when a father or mother does too much talking for the son--except in some rare occasions where the son is very shy and can't speak publicly. Dad has certainly done the talking for Meeks.

Well I got to listen to some of the Meeks interview today and he was quite eloquent on why he is coming to UK. Loves the place and loves the fan attitude. The campers for MM sealed it for him. His dad has been talking but Jodie did a lot of talking today.

meeks looks really solid. i love the fact that he's really good w/ his mid-range jumper. if he can shoot it remotely close to the way rip hamilton does, we could have a great player on our hands.

Man, I've not been paying attention. I know Meeks' dad. We work for the same company and I used to work in the same dept a few years back. I'll have to drop his dad a note and congratulate him on the decision.

Phat,

That is awesome. However, DO NOT do this until he signs. It's an NCAA violation until that point. UK as an institution, which includes its boosters/fans, is in a no contact period with recruits. After that date, that would be great.

Its in the sticky at that the top of this forum (b-ball recruiting) and comes directly from Sandy Bell. I know alot of us feel that we're being harmless when wanting to talk to a fellow recruit or his relatives but the NCAA is another matter.

Coldstream and NotFrank are 100% dead on target here. Please re-read the NCAA compliance guidlines posted above.

It is our intention to fully and completely cooperate with Sandy Bell and her office in getting the message out.

Please help by bending over backwards to be circumspect in these situations. The fact that any fans intentions might be harmless does not nulify a violation.

Thanks for the head's up. I'll hold off until he signs, but my intention would have only been to say congrats and good luck. But if that's an issue, I leave it alone.

the guidelines go as far as to say to me... when I do recruiting analysis at games.. I cant wear ANYTHING REMOTELY resembling UK on it. It could be misconstrued and be a violation.

So discretion is the better part of valor.

I thought contact was ok so long as a prior relationship existed. Meaning that a relationship existed prior to his recruitment byUK. Which inPNCs case doesexist.

Am I wrong here?

If one of the Admins friends or brotherssons or daughters were a good enough athlete to attract the attentions of UK, would they have to sever their relationship to avoid a violation.

That would be retarded. But nothing surprises me about those totalitarian, communistic, incompetentfools at the NCAA.

During this period big Dave, Contact can only occur if the recruit initiates contact.

The coaches and University can contact school about eligibility, etc...and the coach.. but not the recruit directly.
