View Full Version : We'll have to load up on F/C's in 2007

i love having meeks and jasper coming to UK. they both look like very good players. but my only concern is that only getting one F this year(Wright) and losing Sims, Perry, Thomas(3 F's), Alleyne, Woo(2 C's) next year will completely deplete our frontcourt. basically it leaves us with this:
SF-???
PF-Wright(SO)
C-J. Carter(RS SO)
thats it, assuming morris is gone by then. i've looked briefly at the 2007 class, and there seems to be plenty of talented F's there. one good thing is that this lawal kid (#19 on Rivals.com) is Meek's teammate in HS. so, that might help us land him, which would be a good start. butwe still have a long way to go. by having 5 free scholly's, we'd have to get, in my mind: 2 SF's, 2 PF's, 1 C. we have 0 SF's. wright will likely leave after his soph year, if not his froshyear. and carter's the only C we have. can you all tell me if you have any info on the 07 class for UK, besides mayo? thanks for any information.

We are not done with forwards in this class, even after Wright.

i only say that Wright is it because it's sounding like thompson and young are longshots, and perry stevenson has basically dropped off the earth, at least on this forum. so, who else would we be getting?

Wright looks to be in solid, but who knows. CC has reported OTS is still going after Thompson, then Young. Stevenson is another option. Wright is the key, however. There could also be a late bloomer in the Spring as well.
There are still good ones to be got in 07 and we seem to be on top of a lot of them.

Josh Southern - 6'9"...4 star
Gani Lawal- 6'8" ...soon to be team mate of Jodie Meeks. 5 star recruit.
Keenan Ellis - 6'10"...4 star
Isaiah Martin - 6'8"...3 star
Likely others.
Lawal is the guy we need to get, IMO.

If we are unable to get Thompson/Young/Stevenson, we will sign a guy in the spring. Do not be surprised at a late Jason Bennett push, if the others do not come to fruition.

Am I wrong, but aren't Shag and Woo only Juniors next year? And isn't Morris only going to be a soph? And don't we have another 7 footer in the wings? I think we may be okay in the paint. I would always like to have a great power forward like Mash, but I guess you can only stack the deck so much in college bb. You win the tourney with your guard play anyway, and we look to have a lock on that spot for years. Tubby's folks don't raised no dummies. He knows where this game is going. And he intends to be on the first lines when we get there.

You're correct about their class status but Shag may go pro (predicted at #24 on one mock draft), Woo may go overseas for $$$ while Morris may want to get out of Lexington ASAP. That leaves us Carter who is a project. This is what we're worried about along with a sudden lack of forwards.

i'm talking about next years senior class. i know this year is sparks, moss, stockton. but after that is the other 5 guys. i'm considering this coming season as this year, not next year. sorry for the mix-up.

That will be a desparation move and A REAL BAD ONE.
I think the only way its a good move is if Woo and Shag both leave. Which could happen. BUt not likely.

Bob ... there are plenty of others.
Darrington Hobson. Aaron Pogue. Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson is the PF I want. Tubby has already offered Hobson and Johnson.

on rivals, gary johnson does like us. but on scout.com, kentucky isnt even an option. it doesnt even say that UK has given him an offer. also on rivals, it didnt list UK as an option for keenan ellis. and when i looked at rivals.com's top 100 2007 recruits, the only F/C'swho had UK listed as an option weregary johnson, gani lawal, and kevin love. basically, here's who i've found who's looking at UK right now(F/C's only):
#6 Kevin Love 6-8 240 C (Med Int)
#19 Gani Lawal 6-8 205 F (Med Int)
#24 Gary Johnson 6-7 210 F (Med Int)
#42 Mike Holmes 6-7 200 F (Med Int)
#51 Darrington Hobson 6-7 180 F (Med Int)
#57 Marshall Moses 6-8 230 F (High Int)
#67 Tyrone Shelley 6-6 190 F (Med Int)
that's all the forwards. i do know of 2 good G's who like us(i'm sure u all know them too). there's prob more G's than this, cuz i havent looked at many of them.
#1 O.J. Mayo 6-4 210 G (Med Int)
#52 Corey Fisher 6-1 175 G (High Int)
anyway, we've got a fair amount of people looking at us. out of that group, a 5-player class i'd like to get would be mayo, love, lawal, johnson, moses. of course, we're still far away, but as of now, thats what its looking like for UK. not a bad group of players.

Johnson has been offered and no way Love ends up here, even after Oregon bungled his recruitment, I mean Nike bungled his recruitment.
