Mychal Parker will visit UK next week. He describes himself as a slasher and I would agree wholeheartedly. He has a tendency to “blend in” from time to time but when he gets the chance to shine, he doesn’t waste it. He’s got athleticism and hops. Take a look at the video that Beisner posted earlier to get a better idea of his ability to get into the lane. UK has yet to offer Parker but he might end up with one after he gets the chance to meet the coaching staff in Lexington. Maryland is a school that has been rumored to be high on his list but he hasn’t committed yet, despite holding an offer from the Terrapins. We’ll keep you posted on how the visit goes.

Scouting Report
Mychal Parker describes himself as a slasher. He is also extremely athletic and can get to the rim quickly. Parker is well known as a player that can finish around the rim with contact. With the ball in his hands, especially in transition, Parker has quick hands and will make smart passes to progress the ball down court or get a teammate in a good position to score. Without the ball, while in transition, he has a nose for sniffing out the best line to the rim and will use good hands to accept the pass and control it. During the NBA Camp, while guarding Harrison Barnes, he showed the ability to crouch down in good defensive position and slide his feet quickly to stay in front of Harrison while Harrison tried to utilize that deadly first step of his. Parker also sank a few rangy jumpers, sometimes extending pretty far outside the arc, which is a trend that he has recently showcased. The range on his jump shot was one of the areas that scouts were critiquing him on in the past and he seems to be in the process of answering those critics.
Recruiting Report
Mychal Parker holds offers from Clemson, Florida, Miami (FL), Maryland, North Carolina State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. He had previously said that his top 3 were Miami, Maryland and Florida. He was very high on Virginia also, but that was before they showed their former head coach, Dave Leitao, the door. The new Virginia staff is currently still trying to get that interest level back to where it was previously. At the NBA Camp, he gave a tentative top 2 of Maryland and Miami but quickly added that he still hasn’t really narrowed down his list. He plans to do just that in the middle of July, most likely on July 15th. Parker will, of course, be in Lexington on Thursday and hopes to receive an offer during the trip. If so, there has been plenty of speculation that Kentucky would jump into the mix of the top suitors for Parker’s services. Ohio State is another school that is trying to jump in with Parker as well. On a decision time, Parker said that he will probably decide during the spring but “at the earliest during my high school basketball season.”

One of Mychal Parker’s high school assistant coaches told NBE Basketball that Parker’s top five includes Maryland, Wake Forest, Miami, Auburn and Arkansas. Parker had previously named UK amongst his favorites but it seems that may no longer be the case. There was a period in which the interest in Parker climaxed for the staff, and Parker said he might visit, but an offer was never extended and it seems that both parties may have moved on.
