You bet I do. My transister going while doing homework at the kitchen table. Jeez Tom...that was forever ago. I'm humming the jingle right now.

WAKY radio...7 9 0! I be humming that off and on with My Old KY home. Have decided to make my first mint julep at the call to post for the first race. Bought fresh mint yesterday and made simple syrup. Have the Woodford Reserve ready to go and my Derby glass. Is drinking bourbon on Derby Day in a mint julep allowed in the WCN Bourban Club ;)

I'll be seing some of my classmates in June. I just might get a group up to go to this reunion. How much fun will that be???

I remember WAKY well. I even met Bill Bailey once. He had a great radio voice.

No music played for me when I went to the site though. I feel cheated. :(

Who could ever forget WAKY?? In the mid 60's I would listen with my little blacktransistor radio and dream of the world that WAKY created.

To go to a dance at Fountain Ferry Park and hear the Carnations or Trendells. Or to someday go to Club68 in Lebanon. And to try to imagine what the Wierd Beard and Bill Bailey looked like. The most depressing thing about WAKY was when they cut their power around dark and we lost the signal for the night. But they always came back the next day with more zany happenings. Lost interest in WAKY in the early 70's, but the 60's were a total blast.

Thanks for the wonderful link that brings back so many memories.

For Cathy and friends......

This will definitely take you back. Here are some air checks from WAKY in really excellent condition.

Go here....

http://www.reelradio.com/

Then just type in WAKY in the search box and hit enter. Enjoy !!!!

And while you guys and gals were listening to WAKY, I was listening to KRLA, KFWB and the "boss jocks" of KHJ. The Real Don Steele, Kasey Kasem, Wink Martindale, Roger Christian and Robert W. Morgan.

Now I'll have that jingle in my head for days..... "93 KHJ.....Los Angeles" And then the boss jocks on KHJ would say: "That's KHJ in Boss Angeles, baby!"

Yep, we even listened to WAKY way down in Lexington. There are some great memories associated with WAKY, but I'm keeping some of them to myself. ;)

Ah yes, back in the day...I remember holding my tape recorder up to the radio and hitting the play button just as the DJ stopped talking...and hoping to get the whole song before A.) my arm fell asleep B.) the tape ran out or C.) mom called me for dinner and ruined my recording. As Edith and Archie would say, "Those were the days!" ;)

On the 60's channel on XM radio they turned into WAKY one weekend a few weeks back. Every weekend on this channel they turn into a former rock n roll channel with some of the old commercials and some recordings ofpast DJ's.Last weekend while driving down to Kentucky they were some station from Cleveland. It's kind of interesting to listen to. Especially if you like the 60's type music.

That's exactly what led me down the path to discovering the website. I visited a neighbor working in his garage with the XM 60s playing, and about jumped out of my skin when I heard a long lost but well remembered WAKY jingle...

Glad you said how you found this site. And I thought you just had a lot of time on your hands.;) I listen to the 70s more than the 60s. I love the XM Radio I gave my hubby for his birthday last summer. So much that I got one for Christmas. Boy oh boy. That jingle plays in my head a lot since this thread was started.

I can remember WAKY back in the early '70's, Bill Bailey and Coyote Calhoon, but I also remember being awakened to FM and WLRS-102. It wasbeing played on the radio of an older and much cooler guy (he must have been about 20) who was the cook in a restaurant in Dupont Square. I remember hearing Toys inthe attic - Aerosmith..... and being blown away by the quality of the sound. That was my memory of being introduced to AOR (album oriented rock) and seldom returning to the AM dial.

LRS-102 and what was the call letters for 95? WQHI? Hi 95 I think.
