Top 5 2012 prospect Perry Ellis (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=66601&season=2012) received some big news today as he received his third official scholarship offer. Strange enough the offer came from a coach that has already offered the 6′8″ SF once before. John Calipari was at Memphis when he first offered Ellis, who has a sister at Memphis. Calipari is now at Kentucky and has now set his sights on the top player in Kansas.

The Kentucky offer is the third for Ellis who has already been offered by Memphis and the home state Kansas Jayhawks.

Ellis was the only player in the class of 2012 to be invited to the Vince Carter Nike Skills Academy in Orlando that just concluded in Orlando, Florida. By all accounts, Ellis more than held his own despite getting tagged with the “rookie” name throughout the camp. Ellis now moves his attention and game to the state of Ohio as he heads out to the LeBron James Skills Academy next week.

Rising sophomore phenom Perry Ellis from Wichita Heights is expected to be in Memphis tomorrow for an unofficial visit. At 6′8″ and 210 lbs, Ellis is a very mobile athlete for his size, can run the floor extremely well and uses his size to dominate the paint.

Projected as a concensus top five recruit in the 2012 class, Ellis currently holds offers from the in-state school Kansas along with Memphis and Kentucky. Kentucky was the third in the group to offer Ellis as first reported by Matt Scott of TheShiver.

Brae and Cameron, Perry’s younger brothers, are currently playing in the 13U AAU nationals in Memphis, TN. So, Perry and his mother decided to stop in to see his younger brothers in action and to visit with his older sister Savannah, who will be a junior on the women’s basketball team at Memphis.

Preparing to head to the Lebron James Camp in Akron, OH July 5th-10th, Perry will stop in Memphis Friday to visit with family and visit the University of Memphis then pack up his things and head north to Lexington, KY for a visit to the University of Kentucky on Saturday.

I didn't know Ellis had committed to Memphis. It would really be nice if the staff could get him to commit this weekend...but it would be strange to have a '12 committed before we get a '10.

This could truly be amazing. Kentucky could potentially be looking at the #1 in '09 (Wall), the #1 in '10 (Knight), the #1 in '11 (Gilchrist) and the #1 in '12 (Ellis).

Yeah...the lack of signings for the '10 class is a little troublemsome. I'm just ready for Doron Lamb to commit. I think that once someone (Lamb?) commits...we might see another commitment or two pretty soon afterward. It's just that, for whatever reason, it's kinda human nature for people to be followers and wanna let someone else go first.....
