Oh be quiet! All I have on hand is some 1792.

What do you Booze Connoisseurs think of Jefferson Reserve?

I liked it. But I'm new to this whiskey/bourbon tasting world and after 4, 5 or 6 months in the land of nothing but Jack Daniels, everything else is new and exciting.

Did you guys know that Jack Daniels is sold the world over? Everything piss ant country that I've visited has had a bottle of Jack. Many have Jim Beam.

Maker's Mark is rare. Woodford or any of the other whiskeys that you guys speak of are near to impossible.

Now you can find a lot of Brit and Scottish whiskeys and such in Europe. They don't seem to be as smooth to me.

I am no expert, I think Tom and NC Cat would qualify on that, but Jefferson Reserve is really good IMO. Down in Nashville this year there was a bottle of Four Roses single barrel 100 proof I believe. I really enjoyed that. As soon as my bottle of 1792 is gone, won't be long, I plan on replacing it with the Four Roses. Even my wife liked it and she's not a fan of bourbon.

I just opened the second (and last ) bottle of the 141.2 proof StaggI picked up in Nashville.Kicksa little until those cubes start to melt, but once you can feel your tongue again, the flavors are truly spectacular.:ggrin:There are a number of really fine bourbons out there, but this is right there at the top.I could live the rest of my life drinking nothing but Stagg and Jefferson's Reserve and bevery happy.

Dave, I'm probably the only whiskey drinker on the board who knows next to nothing about bourbon--I've had Stagg, Russell's Reserve, Woodford Reserve, Rare Breed, and I keep a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle around for special occasions. (I toasted Barbaro yesterday, after his romp. :thumbup) But I'm no where near to being a expert.

But scotch is another story. I have fifteen different single malts. Since I only have scotch once a week or so, they last a long, long time. Scotch is not as sweet as bourbon, but great single malts are both smooth and complex. I like the smokey malts from the Scottish Isles. If you see bottles of Lagavulin or Highland Park, give them a try. For a sweeter Scotch that might appeal to a bourbon-lover, check out either Cragganmore or Dalwhinnie. (Highland Park 12 year-old may be the finest all-around scotch on the market--it is almost a hybrid between the sweet highland malts and the smokey/peaty nectar of the islands. It's not as expensive as some of the malts and has something to please most preferences.)

Many people think of Johnnie Walker blends when they think of scotch, but IMO they are not nearly as good as the single malts. And if you get a good single malt, the best way to drink it is neat or with a wee splash of spring water. No ice and not too much water. Scotch is expensive, so for me, a single malt is about sipping slowly--a little goes a long way.

Buffalo Trace didn't leave much of an impression on me a few years ago when I purchased a bottle - other than a headache the next day. Perhaps it was due to being an early bottling of a new line.

Of the premium bourbon's I've yet to try Stagg. I've had practically everything else.

The wife purchased some W.L. Weller's 10 YO Centennial bourbon Friday. Very nice.

I'd always give Nancy a bottle of Tennessee whiskey when she committed such crimes.

Just cracked open a Bulliet (I'm on vacation after all!)

This has got to be the absolute best value in bourbon available today. Great stuff; very affordable.

I love Pawley's Island. I used to work in Georgetown--17 years--and am very familiar with the area. Last time I drove through, US 17 seemed to be exploding with development.

If you want to taste the best pecan pie in the universe, there's a little bakery in Georgetown that has just what you want. Kudzu Bakery is on King Street, just off Front. Besides their pies, they have good cakes, great bread, and a surprisingly good selection of wines. The pecan pie is so good that when I visit friends in N. Myrtle Beach, I always make the 50-mile drive to get a couple of them.

Have a great time!

Mightwant to try some of Pike county's finest sometime. Clear or Charredbetter have lots of ice and a cutting agent of your choice. Probably about 180 proof. Lots of fun when I was younger, buddy it will haul the mail....

My parents retired to Heritage Plantation in Pawleys about 10 years ago. We've been vacationing in the area since the mid-70's.

To be precise, I'll be in a beach house on the surf in N. Litchfield Beach just north of Pawleys this trip.
