How cool would it be to have this young man trying to pick off Morgan Newton's passes in practice and in the spring game!!
Actually, he looks a little like Newton.
Come on down, and play with and against the best every down, every week, and on national television every time you play!!!!

Indianapolis four-star safety Isaiah Lewis has chosen Michigan State over Kentucky, according to The Indianapolis Star. Lewis visited Lexington on Tuesday and had narrowed his choices to the Wildcats and Spartans.[/URL]

So all the signs pointed to Isaiah Lewis choosing Kentucky on Thursday, but the verbal commitment went to Michigan State. Lewis had friends on the UK team, had been to Lexington umpteen times with the Newtons, loved Joker and oh yeah.. had so magnificently planned a trip with his father to Kentucky just hours before making his choice, who upon his departure emailed some media folks just to let them know how great it went. Signs all pointed to one place and it wasn’t MSU. According to his coach though to the IndyStar, Lewis committed to be a Spartan. Quite cold.
All I can say is, welcome to football recruiting. I will warn those, though, that this is a different landscape then basketball recruiting. A verbal commitment means as much as the newspaper it is written on (these days, not much) and it’s not over until February. A member of the staff has already let it be known that UK will still recruit Isaiah, regardless of where he chooses, and will try and convince his family that Kentucky is still the best place for him. I doubt that Morgan Newton will keep quiet, either. In the words of Joker Phillips a few years back in reference to verbals, “It just tells us who we are competing against.” No different then the scenario with Alex Smith, who committed to Cincinnati. A lot can change, particularly at places like UC and MSU, where coaches are the subject of coaching change discussions when they are successful, and lose recruits with just one sour year which showcases that the “upstart” pitch they were sold was nothing more but a pile of lettuce.
Know this, the Lewis family desperately wants an offer from Ohio State badly. That’s no secret. What better way to send out a warning flare then to commit to another Big Ten school? Let’s just say it holds a lot more weight then a commitment to Kentucky. A lot can change and certainly things in East Lansing are a lot more rosier these days then they were in years prior, but at this point, the Wildcats put themselves in a nice position and that’s really all you can ask for. Be careful what’s said in reference to Lewis and his recruitment. As stated, this is football recruiting, where anything goes until February’s signing period. We should have learned that last year with watching the events that transpired with Male’s Justin Green.
In the meantime, next on the UK football recruiting board? We’ll talk about that coming up in the next few days. In the meantime, stay positive.

Gidel on FB is next to worthless. He's got this all wrong.
First he writes yesterday, "Everyone that’s been following this recruitment from the beginning believes this one has UK written all over it, particularly after UK landed Dakotah Tyler in this previous class.", which means he knew nothing but just had to write.
Then today he writes, "A verbal commitment means as much as the newspaper it is written on (these days, not much) and it’s not over until February." First, 90%+ of guys that commit to a school wind up going there. So a commit is not worthless. Second, of course one does not write a commit. Does he know that? And third, just who that cares a bit about recruiting doesn't know it's not over to Feb?
Pretty sad excuse for reporting.
I have full faith in Rich Brooks but you have to wonder if his recruiting strategy focusing on these 4 stars is gonna come back to bite us in the rear...Looks like it already has in this case.

Gidel wasn't the only one. Everybody I read on the Internet who knows football thought this kid was Kentucky's.
By all accounts, this was a pretty shocking development.

Well, I just still hope Mr. Lewis ends up SIGNING with Kentucky, which is obviously what really matters. :5x Regardless, the news was disappointing to read, though, as I had really hoped to get a commitment from this young man. Not only would I feel better about our chances of actually signing him, but also such verbal commitments help in recruiting other top players. Again, though, I just hope there is still a possibility of his becoming a Kentucky Wildcat.

I'm sorry to have disappointed you.
Email me when you get a chance, I'd like the opportunity to chat with you.
Very rarely do guys flip. I think gerntz is right on this one.
