Since I last checked in with Portland (Ore.) 6-foot-8, 220-pound senior-to-be forward Terrence Jones, his stock has risen and his school list is growing.

Jones said he's getting a lot of new interest, including Kentucky and Duke.

"Coach James for Duke has been calling," Jones said. "With Kentucky, I have talked with coach (Orlando) Antigua. That's a great class they have coming in. With (John) Calipari going there, you have to at least take a look at them."

A top-30 prospect in the 2010 Class, Jones already has scholarship offers from Washington, Florida, Indiana, Oklahoma, Arizona, Oregon State, Arizona State, Marquette, Washington State, California and Georgetown. He has also been hearing a lot from Kansas.

Best Slashers
1. Terrence Jones (http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=43313), 2010, (Portland, Ore./Jefferson) This lefty is a physical specimen who drives the ball with explosive strength and overpowers defenders on his way to the basket. A good percentage of his points come from the free throw line because he is so strong and attacks the basket on the drive and from the post. Jones finishes through contact well and finds himself at the foul line frequently. To elevate his game to another level we'd like to see him refine his perimeter shooting ability and weak-hand drives

Kentucky has offered a scholarship to Terrence Jones. When I spoke to him during the tournaments in Vegas he expressed interest in many different schools and UNC was one of them. Roy Williams sat on the sidelines to watch one of his games in Vegas. All kinds of Pac-10 schools are also interested in Jones but he has told me again and again, throughout the summer, that moving out East wouldn’t be a problem if that’s where the right school is. It’ll be interesting to see if UK receives a visit from the self-described point-forward.

TCP reports tonight that UK will be doing an in-home visit with Terrence Jones, the #13 ranked player in America out of Portland, Oregon. He is a PF with mad skills and UK’s rise in his interest level is a good story worth following.

Cal makes pitch to Oregon Wing (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/mens/news/story?id=4500484)

"It went real well," Jones said. "They pretty much just showed me the system and how the offense is ran. It's not meant for every player and they felt I was one of those players that could fit in it."

Jones, who has already gotten visits from Oklahoma, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and Arizona, said the Wildcats helped their cause.

"Of course it helped," Jones said. "It opened my eyes to the system. I can see myself playing in that offense. Plus it's the winningest program in the nation and they're going to have a good year."

Jones is a guy I don't know a whole lot about....but from what I've READ...I like the reviews of his game given to him

I found some video of him....and I LIKE WHAT I SEE!!!! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

A big man who can dribble like a guard, pass like a guard, and shoot from the perimeter. Oh, and take it inside and finish at the rim. Also, he's a lefty! When was the last time we had a good lefty at UK?

Here's the video. Looks like a player on the rise, and someone I definitely wouldn't mind seeing wearing the blue and white of Kentucky ;)

This is a question for many of the old-timers who've been around and seen a lot of ball over the years.

I'm sure it's mainly (primarily) because he's a lefty...but watching Terrence Jones....I SWEAR....it's like I'm watching a combination of Jalen Rose and Sam Perkins.

He doesn't have quite the small ball skills of Rose....or quite the big man skills of Perkins...but it's like he's a hybrid. He's close to Rose skills....and close to Perkins skills. He definitely seems to have the range and shoots the three like both of them (both were good three point shooters). Pass and dribble like Jalen, block and defend like Sam.

Is it just me? Or do others see this comparison as well?

Not looking good for the Cats....

Multiple sources have said that Jones, a forward from Oregon, is leaning toward sticking close to home at Washington or Oregon.

Regardless of what the LA Times says above, I've seen a few UK people today say that Cal is going to throw the kitchen sink at Jones.

Is Jones still considering the Cats? Is this just a typo maybe?

http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com/news/article/-5237164570792375720/jefferson-getting-early-start-as-in-545-am-practices-on-a-third-consecutive-title/

Jones spent much of the fall traveling to campuses, taking visits designed to acquire the information and build relationships necessary to pick a school. But the early signing came and went and Jones still has five that he is considering – Oregon, Washington, UCLA, Oklahoma and Kansas.

Anyone heard anything on Jones lately?

During Cal's radio show after the Austin Peay game tonight.....he mentioned that earlier in the week he had made a "5 hour flight to Portland, Oregon and a 5 hour flight back from Portland, OR in the same day".

My guess is he was out there to visit with one Terrence Jones, but he didn't say for sure....

I would say thats an accurate guess. Let's hope that trip went to perfection for Coach Cal

I would believe that is correct. Though would it be possible he was working something out with Nike? I still think you're correct about it being a recruiting trip to see Jones.

The way Cal works, he probably took care of Jones and Nike. Then went snow skiing before returning home and taking his wife out to the movies. :icon_mrgreen:

Terrence Jones and his Jefferon (Ore) team take on Josh Smith’s Kentwood team tomorrow night on ESPN2 at 11pm EST. Many times the only chance for fans to see their school’s prospects is through highlight films, which often don’t tell the full story of a recruit’s game. Add to it that Jones is from the west side and the odds of you ever seeing Jones before college get even smaller. I think you get the picture. Take the opportunity to see a possible future Cat with one of the most complete all around games on the high school level today.

The game between the Jefferson High School and the Kentwood High School was held at the campus of the latter. Considered a nationally ranked recruit, the 6 foot 9 inches player from Jefferson was the one who actually led the team to a 42-39 victory against the Kentwood High School. He managed to put together four assists, 20 points, four rebounds and four steals. At the end of the game, he commented that it had been a lot of fun to play the game, despite it being a rather “ugly” one.

The fact that Terrence Jones was able to carry the game almost completely on his shoulders, and actually led the team to its victory definitely meant a lot to the player, because the game had been in the home turf for the Kentwood High School, and the game was a closely contested one. The Kentwood team had been pretty certain that they would be winning the game, boosted by the fact that they were playing on their home grounds.

Yes, I saw part of the game and also liked Mr. Jones' game. Its a long way to come to Kentucky, but he would look good in blue. Josh Smith didn't look anything like the Atlanta Hawks player, more like a Sir Charles type of player.

I watched all of the Jefferson/Kentwood game. Jones def carried Jefferson to the win. And they had a game the previous night and made a 3 hour drive afterwards just to make the Kentwood game. The previous night Jefferson scored over 100 points and Jones had 32 (I think 32 is correct). So it was impressive for those kids to get a win at Kentwood on national TV no less.

Jones is a complete player. This was the first time I had seen a whole game of his. He has said that he wants to go somewhere where he will have immediate impact. I think he could go anywhere in the country and impact immediately. I would put him and Harrison Barnes on the same skill level, but Jones playing in the Pacific Northwest didnt give Jones as much pub as Barnes. Jones also hasw a very good defense. The commentators compared him to Stacey Augmon at one point in the game, both being lefties and having a strong defensive mentality and both very athletic.

I would love to see Jones in a Kentucky uniform next year. I def see him making an immediate impact for UK if he decides to go to Lexington.

As for PeachtreeCat's Sir Charles comments, I agree. Smith is a big boy. Only 6'9" but he has girth also. But to be fair I know this is reallly only his first week at 100%. Just coming off an injury and the layoff peroid. I think he could slim down some by the time he hits UCLA's campus next season.

Maybe a chance Terrence Jones is leaning towards UK...

From an article in the Seattle Times

Report: UW recruit Terrence Jones to sign with Kentucky

Not sure what to make of this story in the Albany Democrat-Herald (http://www.democratherald.com/sports/high-school/article_671585c4-29b1-11df-85b8-001cc4c03286.html), which notes highly-touted forward Terrence Jones has chosen Kentucky.
The article mentions Jones who led Jefferson High of Portland to a win in the first round of the 5A boys basketball playoffs on Saturday.
Nearly midway in the story, reporter Jake Rosenberg writes: "Jones, a five-star recruit who is expected to sign with the University of Kentucky for his freshman year of college next season, scored a game-high 31 points to go with four blocks."
