I'll start it off. From the great metropolis of Lexington, I listened to a lot of DJ Billy Love on WLAP (I think I'm right here, but I'm sure I will get corrected).

And, yes, I stole this topic from the WAKY topic in this forum. :D

Well, in the seventies there was WAKY, of course, and there was Bill Bailey, Gary Burbank, Johnny Randolph (who I had the pleasure and privilege of working for when he was part owner of a station I worked at in the late 80's), Dude Walker, and Coyote Calhoun was also a big player at WAKY, though since he went big time country at WAMZ I've heard he almost refuses to acknowledge his days at WAKY. There was also Mason Dixon, Chris Lundy, Bob Moody, to name a few others.

I remember in the 70's on a clear night being able to hear WLS out of Chicago- Don Geronimo and Larry Lujack and the gang were great.

I listened to WLS in the 60's, when Dick Biondi was the king of the DJ's. BTW, is this the same Don Geronimo that does the Don and Mike show?

My first DJ hero was Len Carl on WLAP in the 50's--I can still remember Len and his girlfriend June McCulley doing appearances at Barney Miller's on main, where we used to go to buy our '45s. When Len Carl left, his successor was none other than Nick Clooney, father of George.

Then came WAKY in the early 60's.

Yes. I had the pleasure of meeting Pete a few times when I was a kid. Linked below is a nice article on Smiley Pete. :)

The only one I remember was Kruser when he was with WKQQ, he's now "retired" from being a music DJ to talk radio on 590.

The land surveyor I first worked for in the mid-80's grew up in the 50's (graduated from St. X in 57 or so).

He always talked of a DJ at WKLO by the name of Beecher Frank.

I always got a chuckle out that name.:D

I loved it when they would wake people up on their birthdays and play the Beatles' birthday song. But, it was sung by Larry Holmes.:ggrin:

I grew up close to Tennessee. I would listen to WOKI from Oak Ridge late at night to Jay after midnight. He was pretty progressive at the time. That's where I learned to love Queen, plus heard great tunes by Marshall Tucker Band, and some other great Southern Rock bands from back in the good ole days.

I have got to break down and get satelite radio.
