Another name that has become quite hot in Kentucky since his de-commitment from Tennessee is 6-2 combo guard Josh Selby. His mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, helped iron out exactly where they find themselves in the recruiting process at this point. While a school list has not been formulated, the Selby’s are “right now in the process of trying to schedule some in-home visits and then go and do some unofficial and official visits.” One visit that became public during Josh’s trip to Oregon, where he earned a gold medal in the Nike Global Challenge, was an unofficial that he has planned for UConn, which Witherspoon said would take place this Thursday, as opposed to the Wednesday date that was initially reported. On other possibilities for unofficial visits, Witherspoon said, “We are trying to get something set up with Kentucky and we are trying to get something set up with Kansas, as well.”

At this point there have not been any formal scholarship offers given to Selby, but those will be expected after visits and longer talks with coaches. Since he reopened his recruitment, Kentucky has been one of his rumored leaders. While Witherspoon maintains that all schools are equal, she did describe Josh’s feelings toward Kentucky by saying, “I don’t want to say one of his favorites because I don’t want to alienate other schools but I will say that Kentucky is a strong possibility. They are one of the schools we are considering and, as I’ve said before, if you look at John Calipari’s record and his success rate with point guards, for us not to consider Kentucky would be ludicrous.”

On the feeling of interest from Kentucky’s side of things, Witherspoon said, “There is mutual interest. We understand that it is a recruiting process and Josh is not the only kid that they are recruiting. We’re kind of behind the eight ball with us being committed to Tennessee for so long and a lot of these coaches spending their recruiting time and dollars on other point guards. Our thing is that the right school for Josh will still be there when he is ready to commit again.”

Kentucky has now scheduled a second in-home visit with Josh Selby, according to Maeshon Witherspoon, his mother. Last night, assistant coaches Rod Strickland and Orlando Antigua visited with Selby and his mother, but on the 24th, the entire coaching staff will be making an appearance at their home. So while last night surely held significance with the family, next Thursday should be the more traditional of the in-home visits, in which the family will be able to get a closer look at head coach Calipari and also learn what their plans are for Selby. We’ll keep you updated on what happened during both of the visits, after the last of the visits occur next week.

Josh Selby, who narrowed his list to six schools. Selby told Evan Daniels that his final six would be Kansas, Syracuse, Kentucky, Kansas, Indiana and Baylor. The big surprise there is that Selby doesnt list UCONN, a school some had thought was his favorite. This may or may not be a good sign however for the Cats, as the Huskies are also a potential top choice for Brandon Knight with UK, and one wonders if that factored in to any movement on the Selby recruitment. Selby of course was originally a commitment of Tennessee and it hasnt been clear at all times how much interest UK was truly putting in him during the summer. But the UK interest has stepped up in recent weeks and one wonders if the Irving decision could end up with a Selby trip to Midnight Madness. We shall see and my guess is that Dustin will let us know.

Excellent

While not the "Selby lists UK at the top of his list, will announce his choice this Friday" kind of news I'd certainly LIKE to hear....I guess a "he's set a date to visit" is better than nothing :icon_lol:

I wonder if she made it. Would have been a great game for her to see :icon_mrgreen: :thumbup:

That said, I wonder if UK is Selby's "leader" at this point. Word is, that Selby had been wanting to commit to UK...but that the staff has always listed Knight as a higher priority than Josh...but that apparently has changed recently. Word is that the Cats may now consider Selby to be the better player, and that they are going to start pursuing him much more heavily...regardless of Knight's situation or interest.

Thoughts? Any word on any of this?

I do know that many thought Selby was UK's if they wanted him a few months ago. Seems like that has changed now.

Could hurt our chances if she gives any creedence to the chants of the Hoosier fans about cheating...I would really like to see this young man take the step up and comitt early! That not only shows his dedication to this program, it would show his leadership as well for not being a follower! That will lead to many more trying to get in with us! How many do we have for sure next year - or believe

Thats interesting. I haven't heard the Coach and staff consider Selby to be the better player now and are pursuing him harder than Knight now. Every account I've heard says Knight is a instant game changer and one of a kind. Anyone else heard we are now more interested in Selby?

Why can't we have both?

Thanks for the link.

Interesting read. I'm liking Selby more and more all the time. I don't know at this point if I would consider Knight to be the better player....it sounds like Josh has, at the very least, equaled himself to Brandon and made this a bit of a discussion or argument rather than a foregone conclusion....

Has anyone else on here seen Selby and Knight play online or in person? I actually thought Selby was better than Knight, maybe better than Barnes too. The dude is a complete game changer.

I wish the media would stop reporting these recruiting visits until they are more set. Lots of times in the past these plans are reported more as fact than tentative plans.

Ive seen Knight , Selby, and Barnes play atleast 3x each. Knight and Selby a few times more bc UK was higher of chance to get one of those guys. Id have to say Knight is the better of all 3. Instant game-changer. There isnt much Knight can not do on the court. All 3 will be great colligate players but I just cant see how Barnes or Selby would be considered more valuable or a better overall player than Knight

I've seen Barnes and Knight but not Selby. Barnes and Knight are flat out good. Barnes has more finesse but Knight was more exciting.

Josh Selby also visited Arizona this past weekend but did so at a different time than Lamb. Selby and his mother took in the game between Arizona and Washington, which Arizona won. Kentucky will get a visit from Selby during their March 7th game against Florida but not before Kansas gets a visit from Josh on Valentine’s Day weekend. UConn, who had previously been nixed from the list, is also a possibility for a future visit. It seems like a lot will have to occur before any kind of odds could be given for Selby’s decision, including decisions of other players and Selby finishing his visits. When Selby first left Tennessee the word was that Kentucky was a big favorite but Kansas has been making major pushes and gaining ground on Selby’s list since then. Some even consider Kansas to be the favorite at this point.

WOW! A HoopMix clip that shows more than just dunking!!! Who knew? :icon_lol:

Seriously...that's awesome...because it shows his ability to dribble, pass and range and form on his jumper.

I'm one of the few that has liked Selby equally to Knight. If Brandon goes elsewhere and we get Selby....I, for one, won't be disappointed :widcat:

I'm amazed at how many people (posting on that article) think that Selby and Lamb could be a "package deal" to either Kansas or Arizona...but none seem to think that Knight and Lamb would be a package deal anywhere (especially UK).

Wall is gone after this year. We all know that. Bledsoe MIGHT be. Doubt it, but you never know. And besides....even if Eric stays (which I personally think he will)....there's room for Knight AND Lamb. Our backcourt is woefully thin. Really, Eric and John are the only TRUE guards we have!!! (Miller and Liggins are more SF/Point Forward type players, and not true "Guards"...same for Dodson). And Cal has said numerous time he wouldn't have a problem playing three guards.

Seems like most think Knight is coming to UK. I certainly hope that's the case. But could you imagine if we signed BOTH Knight and Lamb?!?!?!? All of a sudden, a "zone defense" thrown at us wouldn't be such a bad thing....we'd actually have the perimeter shooting to tear it apart!!!

I have heard that Selby and Lamb are pretty tight and that Knight and Lamb are not at all.

Don't know if there is any truth to that but it could be why people don't think Knight and Lamb will end up at the same school.
