So much for the UCLA woriies on this one. I really would have liked to have this kid and the talk about him not wanting to come eastwas obviously incorrect. I suspect Stephenson will go to UCLA now.
UNC is always a player in these things. I don't want Wright visiting there regardless of who says he is a lock for UK.
But if we do get Wright, then the hunt for a big body will likely have to wait until 07, which puts some significant pressure on OTS to get a good one.

Getting Deon hurts there chances. We still got BW, and Stevonsons on our list.

Holy s&%$! That came way out of left field. Ben Rowland's heart must have stopped when he heard that. Maybe Tubby knows something (of course he does) that we don't. Maybe there aren't enough schollies for Deon?! Wright gets one, who gets the other? Silent verbal from Young? God I love this crap. I'm 28 years old speculating on the future of a bunch of 17/18 year olds. I think I need a hobby...

Interesting pickup for UNC and this tells me that UNC is now out of the Brandon Wright race. I know this because Brandon does watch what other players and schools are doing. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a choice within the next two weeks.

This doesn't necessarily eliminate them. They are two completely different players. They share the same position designation, but not the same skill sets. They still have another schollie. Wright will be here regardless of Thompson.

Not necessarily. But it is another set of hands (along with Tyler whos skills sets are similar to Brandan), that takes time and touches away.
The whole lot of Tyler, William Graves, Deon, Tywon, and Wayne are enough that Brandan might go ahead and cancel the UNC trip. I doubt it... but it may be enough to sway him here.

I based it upon him seeing Louisville getting a commitment and he then elimanated them. Ok maybe it was wishful thinking on my part but the success of this year's recruiting class will be based upon Kentucky's ability to get Brandon.

Agree. But the UNC cupboard is filling up. We still have at least one spot, likely two.

Interesting.
To me, this solidifies Wright to UK. (And I know he plays a different position than Thompson, but the middle is getting stacked in Chapel Hill.)
Also, as NotFrank suggests, could this open up T. Young again?
Hmmmm.

Anything with Young is possible. It is that inner circle (some have protested, methinks protesting a little TOO much about the word posse, so for once I will be PC and change the word)that is the issue. If we can convince them...then hey it will be cool.

There is talk on the UNC boards about his commitment. Here's the direct link to the scout article.

i am too poor to subscribe so i can't really see it. it does say he made his decision, but it trails off there.

I can't see the scout article either. I posted it for others who can access the full article but the fact that UNC fans on their boards and ukbob are citing the article is enough proof to me that he's GONE.

Just talked to a UNC buddy and he confirmed the article. He has premium access. Not all that thrilled with it. They were really hoping on BW.

why is it that every time someone uk is after commits somewhere else. the accusations of cheating come out???? i mean i know this came as a shock to nearly EVERYONE but it doesn't mean unc cheated.....i mean just think of howwe would feel if people accused of us of paying meeks or jasper. hell, if i had a dollar for everytime i've seen F$U or Memphi$ i'd be able to buy some recruits.

I think it is the fact, that UCLA led, then UK, then just before he was going to come visit... He verbals to a school that was his 3rd or 4th choice.
It doesnt add up, unless he did one of the stupid moves and went to the one that he felt he could go to that wouldnt make UCLA mad about UK and UK mad about UCLA> I doubt it. but kids have done that... gone to their third choice because the other two schools were bickering and talking bad about the other.
Strange things have occurred.

greg, i agree something happened. but, why couldn't it have been that roy put the full court press on after loosing hawes. i mean maybe it's just that i'm not a conspiracy theorists. i know cheating happens and i'm sure it's far more rampant then we will ever know. but, it seems like the only time anyone brings it up is when WE (UK) lose out on a recruit. you've said yourself, we can't land em all.

When I see it here, it seems to be accurate.

I agree we can't land them all Matt, but sometimes it seems to come out of nowhere, the case where we lost Rich and the other kid out of nowhere. Also with this case, Thompson was leaning toward UCLA, because he didn't want to leave the west coast and his mom, UK was second as greg as pointed out, Deon had family in louisville. Instead he comes out of nowhere and picks North Carliona, a school that is in a state that none of his family lives in and one that had seem to have dropped near the bottom of his list... I just said something seems strange
Can't win them all, but sometimes other factors maybe working against you as well. Lets not be naive Matt.

again, i said that i'm sure cheating happens. i just find it odd the ONLY time anyone brings it up is when we lose out on a recruit. seriously, could roy williams just have made an EXCELLENT sales pitch @ the 13th hour. deon could've decided that he wants to be his own man. everyone warns that these are 18 year old kids we are dealing with when talking of potential recruits. then when something odd happens someone IMMEDIATELY assumes cheating. if you take a step back and look at it. deon went to a school that is going to give him the most exposure quickly. there will be no one to compete with @ unc. he will be on TV a lot. and unc has very few upperclassmen to deal with.

Keep in mind Tubby may have backed off of Deon with the impending commitment of Wright and another that we don't know about. Roy can't afford to cheat this year after the Kansas stuff came out last spring. If Deon's parents end up working in Chapel Hill ala the Boozers in Durham and Ms.Duhon in Durham, then you may be on to something. ;)

No.. he is royally ticked that Deon who said he would visit Oct 14-16 and then didnt and went ahead and committed on a "gut feeling"
Please.
I am sure he was promised a pine tree in Chapel Hill, but come on... from 3rd to 1st in a day...and then a verbal.
Of course he could be telling the truth...
But since Tubby is incensed... I am too.
