My favorite quality in players has always been HEART. Just picking one former football Wildcat, I'll go with Wesley Woodyard (and another right there with him would be his teammate Keenan Burton). When no team had selected Wesley in the regular NFL draft, he had said that no one could measure his HEART.

Well, there are well-deserved threads for a couple of other Cats who are also showing a lot of HEART, Derrick Locke and Corey Peters. Well, this one is for a player whose HEART has been most visible the past couple of weeks, in particular -- HEART that could be seen from way up in the stands at Commonwealth and on the television screen yesterday.

Yes, this thread is for RANDALL COBB, a young man whose HEART is so admired and so appreciated. Randall, along with Derrick and Corey and other Wildcats, had SO BADLY wanted to win that game yesterday. In today's CJ Brett Dawson shares a quote from Will Fidler in regard to Randall Cobb's "heart":

"I've never seen anybody play with that much HEART in my life."

That Fidler statement about Randall Cobb pretty much says it all in regard to why Randall Cobb deserves this thread. What a tribute to Randall Cobb those words are! Too, I suspect Randall Cobb's HEART will play a large part in leading our Cats back on to the winning track.

Like Wesley Woodyard and Randall's mentor Keenan Burton, Randall Cobb is a WINNER, and a huge part of that is his HEART.:thumbup: and more to you, Mr. Randall Cobb. GO CATS! BEAT THE TIGERS!

Last night Coach Brooks mentioned the HEART of one of those players I had mentioned in this thread in praise for Randall Cobb (since there had already been threads for Derrick Locke and Corey Peters). In regard to Corey Peters' being named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week award, even in a loss, Coach Brooks noted how Corey Peters had played his HEART out for his Kentucky football team.

Coach then went on to say that our players, period, had played their hearts out, but had not been rewarded with a victory. Well, I'm thanking the players for just that, even though I cannot thank them for a win. Everybody "loves a winner," but I firmly believe it's important for our players still to feel "loved" after falling so cruelly short after "playing their hearts out."

Do they still need to work harder and correct the mistakes and actually get the victory NEXT time? Sure, they do. Yet, fans' not recognizing the HEART our players are showing, not noticing their still going right back to work after those two disappointing losses and, hopefully, after Saturday's heartbreaking loss, is not such a good thing.

So, Wildcats: We fans APPRECIATE the HEART you've shown. We STILL BELIEVE in you. We have NOT given up on you. Now, of course, go out and BEAT THOSE TIGERS Saturday!!! :)

You nailed this one, poodoo.

Randall Cobb's heart is big enough to carry us through this season to another bowl game.

I kinda agree that putting him full-time in the Wildcat is not a good long-term strategy. But for the Auburn game, I think I'd put the ball in his heroic hands and let him lead us to a much, much-needed win.

We can work in Fidler and/or Newton against Eastern.

Oh, and speaking of heart, I hope Whomever is grading in Heaven has poodoo's. ;)

Very well said, madam. :icon_biggrin:

Thanks, guys.

Too, HEART is the characteristic I have always admired most in players. Randall Cobb most obviously has "heart.

I truly believe this Kentucky football team itself has it, though, and that's why I've been spending a lot of time here the past few days. The loss to South Carolina broke my heart, and I can only imagine how our players and their coaches had felt after that one. The players had actually said that the losing streak to South Carolina was the one they MOST wanted to break, but then again "something" happened, as Coach Brooks called it. :icon_sad:

May our players continue to show such "heart." Hopefully, we Kentucky fans, in turn, will "kick up" our level of support for them. I truly believe these guys deserve just that. GO CATS! BEAT THE TIGERS!

Poodoo,

There is a point where it becomes make or break for any team. The team jells or falls apart. The USC game may have been it for our kids. I hope so. I would love to see the team come together after the loss of Hartline and the other who went down. Cobb and Locke could be the catalysts for that because they both exhibit that type of leadership.

The Inidana game used to be the indicator of how the season would go. A win would bring a decent season by UK standards and a loss would bring the typical season. The UL game took its place until Brooks came on board. It looks likeit is USC this year. I am hopeful. :widcat:

Every once in a while a player comes along that not only has big talent but also an even bigger heart. We've always recognized heart on the basketball court in such players as Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson. Randall Cobb is made of the same stuff and deserves our appreciation.

As a footnote, I'm betting we find the same to be true of Morgan Newton.

As a footnote, I'm betting we find the same to be true of Morgan Newton.Based on what I've read about what a respected leader Newton had been in high school, I would think that's quite possible. Having said that, I don't think we fans can expect such of him so soon. Of course, I hope you're right -- and the sooner the better since we should at least be seeing him on the field Saturday. :5x

Back to Randall, though, I agree. His mentor to an extent, former Wildcat receiver Keenan Burton, has said that Randall has "IT," adding "whatever IT is." Joker has said the same about his talented wide receiver. To me, "IT" and HEART that is easily recognized and respected by coaches, teammates, and fans are virtually the same thing.

Yes, Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson are basketball players who have that "IT" or unusually big HEARTS, along with former football Wildcats Wesley Woodyard and Keenan Burton, whom I've already mentioned. Again, though, besides Randall Cobb himself, I truly believe our TEAM has HEART (and I started seeing it after that first quarter against Florida and through the past two games). May we PLEASE see it again this Saturday at Auburn, though, of course. :5x

...thanks for the comments. I hope I can speak for all, but we are honored to have him here at UK. Poodoo's comments are right on. His heart is evident every play. He is truly a special person, but also a special talent. Just another young man that we are proud to call a Wildcat!

GO CATS!!!

Thanks from me, too, aLcOaWiLdCaT. We, too, are surely glad that Randall is a Wildcat. :)

Too, you are right to be PROUD. As Wildcat97 said, he's both a "special talent" and a "special person" -- and its his "heart" that makes him especially special to me. GO CATS! BEAT THE TIGERS!

Surely no one will have a problem with my bringing this thread back to the top. :) What HEART our entire TEAM showed tonight, but how about Randall Cobb heading toward that end zone! Randall is so obviously determined TO WIN, and, again, I just thought it was appropriate to bring this one back to the top. :)

Of course, another player's HEART whom we've pointed out in the thread is none other than Derrick Locke. Too, how about our finally having not one, but two rushers with over a hundred yards rushing! Congratulations to those two young men for that feat. :)

HEART was a huge part of this huge win, led by their leader, Mr. Randall Cobb. Then, too, though, how about that HEART our defense exhibited tonight!

It's just :thumbup: and more to this team's HEART. They surely made us PROUD, folks. By the way, in case no one's noticed, I truly LOVE this team. :icon_biggrin:

Probably some of you have also heard Coach Brooks just say that Randall Cobb and Derrick Locke have HEARTS "the size of the stadium." He also told the team that this one had been as much of a TEAM win as any he had ever seen.

So this "Randall Cobb's HEART" thread has hereby expanded to "This team's HEART" thread. :icon_biggrin: Too, I feel sure your hearts, like mine, could not be happier for these players and their coaches. :)

I disagree with Brooks on that one... Their Hearts are much bigger than that!! Great job CATS!!

Well-said, jwb. :icon_biggrin: Too, may these guys continue to show such heart throughout the season. :5x
