Cats in danger of losing Mychal Bailey?

Former LaGrange (Ga.) H.S. head hunter and University of Kentucky football signee Mychal Bailey, who is currently enrolled at SW Mississippi Junior College, returned to the football field for his freshmen season in J.C. and is already turning heads.

"I'm playing safety and outside linebacker," Bailey said. "We won our homecoming game on Saturday. I played good. I had the most tackles on the team with 10 and I had one sack. I would have had a kick return for a touchdown, but I lost my footing and stumbled down on their 35 yard line."

Bailey signed with Kentucky in 2007 out of LaGrange (Ga.) HS where he led the Grangers with 81 tackles and 11 sacks as a senior in 2006. A former Atlanta Constitution-Journal first-team all-state selection in 2006, Bailey ran a team-best 4.37 forty-yard dash in garnering the Iron-Man award at LaGrange High School.

In addition to his duties defensively, Bailey also played wide receiver, running back, returned punts and kicks for the Grangers.

"We're playing Jones Community College this Saturday," Bailey added. "School is going great. That's what's coming first, right now, for me."

The Wildcats appear to have company for Bailey's services if he chooses to open up his recruiting process, as several schools have started recruiting the 6-foot-1, 205 pounder.

"Western Kentucky and Arizona State," Bailey said about additional interest. "My defensive back coach down here said he was going to get Coach Cucurnto to come down here because he's a former Tiger and former Arizona Cardinal, but right now I'm just focused on them Wildcats."

The Sun Devils and Coach Dennis Erikson had offered a scholarship to Bailey in 2007 before Mychal signed with Kentucky. He also had scholarships from Troy and Nebraska, with interest from around the SEC including Auburn. He chose the Wildcats, among other things, because of his relationship with his cousin Braxton Kelley and good friend Randall Burden, who are both starring for the number-one ranked scoring defense in the country currently.

Bailey intends on heading up to Lexington to see his former 'mates in action this season.

"Yeah, I am," Bailey said in reference to trying to get up to see Kentucky play a game this year. "We should be through with Saturday games this year because the rest are Thursday games, so I'm gonna call UK and set up a game to go to."

That's an interesting read and makes me even more eager to see him here at UK. But, it is more than a year old -- October 8, 2008.

According to rivals he...COMMITTED (09/11/2009)Offered

So, it looks good to me. He and Eric Simmons are both DBs with a 4.4 forty. But, Bailey is really stout with another 20 pounds on Simmons. Couple that with being two years older (a JUCO) and I think he will lay some real hits on receivers.
