Tubby Smith Visits Kids at Kuwaiti Sports Club
By Spc. Michael R. Noggle

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – Twelve NCAA Men’s basketball coaches and sports personalities traveled to the Kuwaiti Sports club to coach some of Kuwait’s younger basketball players Thursday.

As part of their visit during Operation Hardwood II, the coaches spent two hours talking with local youth coaches and practicing with the children on the fundamentals of basketball.

Also on hand to see the exhibition practice was Richard LeBaron, the U.S. ambassador to Kuwait.

“The things we are here to do will help build their basketball game from the ground up,” said Dave Odom, University of South Carolina head basketball coach.

Thanks for the link, Radiated. Too,while I feel sure Tubby's motivation in accepting the invitation to participate in this venture was not to make himself and the program more visible, ironically, it does just that. :)

I know they are only still shots, but these pictures show how effectively Tubby can communicate when he is on. . . Charming, funny, intense. These photos show him at his best -- an amazing ambassador for our university and for America in some cases. I can't think of another American I would rather have giving people overseas impressionsof whatour countryis like, regardless of "style of play," than OTS. And I am sure we can all agree about that. Well done, Tubby & other college basketball coaches.

I spent about a month at Camp Arifjan in March 04' waited for our turn to fly back to the US from the middle east. I'm sure it's already pushing 120 degrees there.

Tubby said it was 110 degrees during his interview with Drew yesterday.
