But the level of meanness that underscores some of that commentary (my favorites are those who rip into players who've signed with UK before the poor kids even get to school here) cannot be easy to stomach if you happen to be related to the person on the receiving end.

That comment stuck out to me too. A sad reality of being a Cat Fan. :(

It happens that mean words are thrown around on talk shows and message boards regarding Wildcat basketball players. I'm happy that the WCN administrators and moderaters endeavor to keep it to a minimum on the Nation. Anybody who makes a Wildcat basketball team is a blue chipper in my mind, especially when compared to my own former basketball talents on only the school yard.
To have scored 13 points in a game for our Wildcats would make me ecstatic. I'm sure that the coaches would say JP contributed. That's another reason that Coach Smith's re-aligned starting lineup was beautiful for some never-starting seniors, who each contributed to the successes that did occur in the latter stages of 2005-2006.

JP was one of my favorite wildcats when he was playing here at UK. he wasn't the biggest or the fastest, but he played hard everytime that he stepped out onto that floor.
i am also friends with a couple of his cousins from Michigan, so it made my time up there better having someone around that i was able to talk basketball with since he had a connection to the team. amazing how a kid from a small town in KY can help another kid from OH find friends with an interest in UK basketball in MI.

I too liked Blevins alot. I saw him over in Best Buy three or four times and chatted with him. He was always smiling and nice as could be, and truly loved being a wildcat. How can you not like a guy like that?

Metcalfe County facts:
•Here comes the Judge: The race for county-judge executive in Metcalfe County this fall will be one of the most watched in the state. Incumbent county judge Donald Butler, who was elected as a Republican, is running this time as an independent. Longtime county attorney John Paul Blevins (the ex-UK ballplayer's father) is the Republican nominee. Democrat Greg Wilson rounds out a competitive three-man field.
Donnie Butler will win handlely...)

Am I the only one who thinks it's more than a little ironic that Mark Story writes something like this?
