Scholarships?

Just curious...with Sims and now apparently Alleyne gone does that give us another 2 scholarships free? If thats the case, I'd rather see Tubby use them VERY wisely instead of going out this summer and getting two more players just to use them up.

I was wondering this question myself.... Here's what I've added up

Sparks (+1) Rondo (+1) Williams (+1) Sims (+1) Stockton (+1) Shag (+1)Total: +6

Meeks (-1) Stevenson (-1) Porter (-1) Jasper (-1) Total -4 Subtotal +2

After next season Perry (+1) Sheray (+1) Orbzut (+1) Total +3 Subtotal +5

That brings the 06 schollarships to 2 left and it nothing is done, there will be 5 available scholarships for 07.... This is not factoring in anymore transfers (don't see any reason 2), NBA early entrants (Morris? Crawford?),and the possibility of academic scholarships....

The Walkon situation must be filled as well as Moss and Lemaster have vacated both spots...one was given to Lashaun Watson but he didn't qualify....look for Bobby Perry's cousin and Trey Frazier to possible fill those spots.

Despite the "flunked out of school" headline, it not certain that Alleyne will not be in school and on scholarship next fall. The Lex H/L article indicated he is inelegible for bb but has not flunked out.

The L/H article also indicated the program is not in danger of loseing a scholarship per the NCAA academic progress rule. I've tried to figure/guess about this and concluded we could be in trouble. If Alleyne returns he earns three out a possible four points in the calculation, if not it's two out of four. Hopefully the UK spokesman who stated we are not in trouble is correct about the numbers.

There could very well be over 5 scholly's available for 07....How does the 5-3 rule work?

That does not exist because of all the players leaving for the NBA.

Loot Olson got his head handed to him a few years ago and the 5-3 was changed.

Acedemic progress will also be a factor, just because the guys are gone doesn't mean ther ride is availible. In fact we could lose scholorships. I hope that's not the case but just as they can be gained for good progress they can be taken away for lack of progress.



At least that's my understanding. Let's keep our finger crossed that we can make headway with these new rules versus getting burned.
