Wildcats Move Up to 5th in NCAA Tournament

SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of Kentucky men's golf team moved up a spot on Thursday andis now tied for fifth after two rounds at the 109th NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Crosswater Club in Sunriver, Ore. The Cats were six-under in the second round to bring their two-day total to 570 (283-287) and tie for fifth with Clemson at six under par.

Washington leads the 30-team field. The Huskies shot six-under par on Thursday and hold the lead by three strokes at 13-under par after two rounds of play. Arizona State is now tied with Wake Forest (277-289) for second with identical totals of 566. Florida is fourth at seven-under par after posting a two-day score of 569 (284-285), while Clemson (282-288) and Kentucky round out the top five.

Persistent rain showers and a brief afternoon downpour caused play to be suspended for almost thirty minutes just as UK reached the course. The soggy weather didn't damper the play of Andy Winings who fired a three-under par 69 to stand tied for sixth, four strokes behind Wake Forest's Kyle Reifers who leads the individual standings with a total of 135 (70-72). Winings had four birdies and is now five-under par (70-69) through two rounds of play.
