As the President (and sole remaining member) of the Shag Appreciation Society, I'm distressed to hear that the kid I held out such hope for may have dumbassed his way out of town.
Has there been any confirmation of his status?
Thanks!

I am particularly fond of the way he can jam up Big Baby Davis. If he does not play this year then I think he will be sorely missed when we play LSU.

I wonder if Shagari might have some sort of legitimate learning disability, something undiagnosed or that he's hiding due to embarrassment or shame? Dyslexia or ADD or something? The reason I say this is that his problem seems very deep rooted and seemingly impossible for him to fix. Maybe he cannot read or write well or concentrate no matter if he goes to all of his classes. A person with normal capabilities would certainly have responded by now to all of Tubby's benchings, etc. People with such disabilities are often labeled lazy or undisciplined until they are properly diagnosed and get the proper treatment.

Not to reject your statement at all, but I truly think it's laziness. Hearing Shag speak on some of the post-games, he is a very intelligent person. I'm sure something like a disability would have been noticed by the people that are around him, like the teachers, the students, the players, and the coaches.
Some people just do not have the desire to do certain things. And if there is someone who truly doesn't want to go to school and get the grades, no matter if he is on a scholarship with a top school like Kentucky, then they aren't going to change. Actually getting kicked off the team might help him to finally see that things need to change. Simply being benched may have not been enough because he was still on the team.

People with dyslexia and ADD are often very intelligent and articulate. That's why it is easy to hide and mis-diagnose.

I don't know. Something tells me that with his exposure to so many people, that a proper, accurate diagnosis would have been made. I won't rule out that he may have these things, but we can't rule out that it might also come down to sheer laziness.
