Redick now hears it from critics who doubt he'll bring much more to the NBA than a dead-eye jump shot. He's called undersized at 6 feet 4, slow and a likely liability on defense.

In a retort typical of the kind that fueled fans' ire while he was a Duke star, Redick called such skepticism "stupid."

"I don't think a guy would be consensus national player of the year, two-time first-team all-American, [Atlantic Coast Conference] all-time leader scorer -- I can go on -- if he couldn't just flat-out play," he said.

"Especially coming from a program like Duke."

The problem is that the players who have recently come from Duke to the pros have underachieved in a big way. Add to that his likely defensive liabilities and I can't see him tearing up the NBA.

He was shut down pretty well in the NCAAs by athletic players. What makes him think he will do better in the pros? The players guarding him there are all going to be quicker and bigger than him.

Far be it from me to support anything associated with Duke, but Reddick should be a good, not great, pro. One thing that I believe scouts under-estimate is shooting. Unlike others who think NBA quality shooting can be learned late in a player's development, I think they need to develope a consistent shot early, rather than late.

But they're right about his defense... it's horrible.

Someone needs to introduce this kid to Steve Alford.

Or Christian Leattner?

he makes me sick!!!

that all time leading ACC scorer record should come with a HUGE asterisk....the person he passed did not have the luxury of a 3 point shot which is not much more than a long free throw...and didnt play as many games in a season

let's see him score on the likes of bruce bowen, ron artest, or our own tayshawn prince

I foresee some flash in the pan high scoring games, possibly covering over the fact that he's going to get railed in every category but shooting. He's not a good passer, he's an atrocious (and, finally) an undersized defender, a subpar ballhandler and unable to give even the smallest contributions in anything but the point total.

I wonder how he'll feel when a 6'0" guard who can't shoot (Rondo) gets taken in front of him? ;)

Has JJ watched and ACC game lately... No one plays defense, it is all about who can score the most points, and the refs don't let the post players bang a bit down low.

His skills were over hiped be ESDN and Duke Vital to the point that people thought he was great when he started scoring 12 points a game at the end of the season, becuase people put a body on him on D.

Prince would eat JJ alive gaurding him....

JJ is a arrogant punk for the most part, but I think he will have a decent NBA career. No one will be game planning for JJ in the NBA so if he gets on a team with a good PG or a good big man he can have a lot of success. Great shooters do not grow on trees, even in the NBA. His D is bad, but so are a lot of guys in the NBA. Rip Hamilton is a terrible defender, but he has so much help behind him it doesn't matter. JJ is not a lottery pick but he would a nice addition to a lot of contenders. Denver could have used him in the worst way this year. They had no one that could consistantly hit an open jumper. Same with Cleveland. Both of those teams have late mid round picks, which is about right for JJ. A nice spot for him, though he won't last that long, would be the Raptors in the early 2nd round. They have a very good big man in Bosch and want to start playing a more uptempo game similar to the Suns.

Someone needs to tap him on the shoulder in those interviews and remind me that plenty of college stars excel at this level and are no where to be found in the NBA. Some don't even make it to where he is right now (tryouts)!!

Not sure why all of the knocks on this kid, other than he played for Duke. I don't view his response as arrogance as much as simply defending himself and stating facts. I'm not sure if he will make a "great" pro or not but, he was a great college player. He has demonstrated that he is a tireless worker and gets the most out of his abilities. Seems like a pretty good kid to me.

Not that I am always right or anything, but I said all of this past season that if anyone would decide to play defense against Duke and especially JJ, then the Dukies would be in trouble. AND IT HAPPENED AGAINST LSU. JJ cannot do anything on the court besides knock down wide open shots. He is not a great clutch shooter, and by clutch I mean seconds ticking away, and a guy right up in your grill. If he is left wide open he can hit shots all day. He is a very good shooter, but just not with a guy in his face. That might be a good reason as to why he could be slightly succesful in the NBA. Besides Detroit, San Antonio, and now Dallas, no other team in the NBA believes in defense. It is against their religion. I also have to throw Artest in there as an individual defender,...he is good. Any time JJ plays against a good defensive team, the coach should not bother taking him off the bench, because it will be just like the game against LSU, he won't be able to hit the broad side of a barn. :wildcatface

JJ is a choker and a strange bird, if you ask me. Just one man's opinion. :P

How about Daimen Bailey?

Does this kid really think a slow spot up shooter can make it in the NBA? The NBA three point line is not from 19'9". Also you have to play something called defense. Does he really think he play shooting guard and guard Kobe Bryant? He won't get drafted high and he won't be in the league long.

hate to be a trouble maker, but have you watched the NBA for the last few years? I can name a few slow spot up shooters: Steve Kerr is one that pops up in my head right away.

Just another arrogant Dukie who at best will be a role player like Laettner; sorry, JJ, you won't be in Durham anymore. You might figure that out the first time you go up against a Wade or a Prince, or try to drive the lane against a Wallace (either). K won't be there working the refs for you when you whine.

Maybe you can join the ranks ofall-star white crybabies, along with Kelly Tripucka, Danny Ainge, and Laettner.

Me? I've consistenly proclaimed this kid ain't that good. Always felt that if he was the "best" player in college basketball the sport is in trouble.

Could be wrong, but I see this guy as a journeyman....at best.
