Last season's UNCC--Davidson game, with :47 left in regulation and down one, a Charlotte player drove to the basket and was fouled while shooting. He complained of injury, and was substituted out for a different Charlotte player, a much better free throw shooter. After hitting the second free throw, the FT shooter was subbed out and the player who had been "injured" was subbed back in. No timeouts were called during which the player may have "healed."

From watching Bobby Lutz play, and being biased towards Davidson, there's not a doubt in my mind that the injury was faked so Lutz would get his team to hit some free throws. Is there some kind of penalty for this? If there isn't, should there be? I need some help on this one, because we lost that game bitterly in 2nd overtime.

A player, whether injured or not, cannot re-enter a game until time has run off the clock. So, in the play described, either the clock was started and quickly stopped, or someone made a mistake. There doesn't have to be a timeout, but the clock must start and stop before a sub cn re-enter.
