Not wearing a helmet, and of course no seat belt, I can't see how anyone could endure such a hit. Fortunately, it is believed that the injuries are not life-threatening.

It's weird because my wife and i were just discussing how crazy and ignorant it is not to wear a helmet. I'm still shocked all states don't have a law mandating helmets for motorcycle drivers and passengers. What is the one benefit to not wearing a helmet that outweights the safety it brings to wearing a helmet? Can someone please answer this question?

Pennsylvania had a helmet law for 37 years. Due to the outcries of bikers, they repealed it two years ago. A few other states, including Kentucky, did likewise.

Hardly a day goes by where you read about a motorcycle accident, and most of the time, they are not wearing a helmet.

About 23 years ago I attended Tech school with a guy who was a biker. He was in a christian motorcycle gang (huh?). He had folders of research he had accumulated that weighed the pros and cons of wearing a helmet. From what he had gathered, the benefits of the helmet were offset by the weight and the damage that can be done to the neck in an accident.

I had an uncle who died in a head-on collision years ago and he was wearing a helmet.

Being somewhat libertarian, I've long felt it's the rider's choice to wear a helmet or not, just as wearing a seatbelt should be the choice of the adult.

I have to think that it is ridiculous that we are even discussing helmet or no helmet. He should not have been on a motorcycle anyhow.

I agree.

Equally as ridiculous as telling people what they should or shouldn't eat, drink or smoke.:thumbup

Certainly the Steelers could have put that restriction in his contract. Such restrictions aren't uncommon for star players.

Partaking in such activities would void such a contract, whether or not he was hurt. Teams sometimes are reluctant to push for such clauses because they know there may be a team that will match the price and write the contract to the player's liking.
