LaRay Foote 6-0 180 from Mitchell High School (Memphis)has committed to UK over Auburn, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina.Timed at Auburn camp at4.28/40 and Memphis camp at 4.33/40. The defending class AAA 200 meter and long jump state champion will play football and run track at UK.

He sure does sound fast. However, I believe this is the 5th RB committed to this class. Although we brought in about 10 linemen this season, this still seems to be an area of shortage, along with WR's. With a real 4.3 speed, I hope our new recruit has good hands---he won't be a RB if he does.

I know Brooks wants another QB in this group. Anybody got any ideas as to who it might be?

Agree with your comments T75. I'm guessing that a)maybe they're not confident on Allen, & b)they are signing pure athletes with expectations that some will move to WR or DB or the like. Who is normally the best athlete on a HS team - the RB. That's what we're getting.

You can never have enough RBs if you ask me. Case in point, this year with the injuries we had at RB has made us very thin. IMO, it's a great pickup, look at the school he choose us over.

Hartline would be my guess for QB.

Don't think they have any real concerns about Allen. Just the fact that most HS team's best player is their RB and we are recruiting athletes to possibly move them to other areas of need.

Mitchell's Foote commits to 'Cats for football, track

It took Auburn all of 4.28 seconds to figure out it wanted to offer Mitchell senior LaRay Foote a football scholarship.

Foote's 4.28-second 40-yard dash time at Auburn's camp this summer was all the convincing the Tiger coaching staff needed.

But on Monday, Foote announced he has committed to Kentucky, where the defending Class A-AA 200-meter and long jump state champion will get the opportunity to play football and run track for the Wildcats.

"I'm going to kind of keep it open to see who else might offer me. But right now, Kentucky has shown me the most love," said Foote, a 6-0, 180-pound running back with offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Mitchell football and track and field coach Nathan Cole said much like Auburn, Kentucky was enamored with Foote's speed.

"They came to see him run last year twice, once in a regular meet, then they made a special visit to see him run in the state meet," Cole said. "If he does decide to go (to Kentucky), he said he wants to continue to run. Kentucky is going to give him that option."

If he signs with Kentucky this February (commitments are non-binding), Foote would become the first Mitchell football player to sign with an SEC school.

"I just like the way (Kentucky) plays and the way their coaching staff has been on me," said Foote, who's rushed for 1,011 yards and nine touchdowns in nine games for Mitchell this season.

The great thing about the RBs that have committed to us, with exception to Moncell, can play multiple positions. Warford, more than likely, will be a CB. Goodson, even though he is listed as a RB,will be a S and according to his coaches at Hargrave, Corey is very good at S. Foote, same as Warford, will be looked at as a RB early on but will eventually be moved to CB. And Ginter, seems to me anyway, as a force at LB.

As for the other QB in the class, I hope its Hartline out of OH. #2 would be the one out of IL, Scott Tolzien. #3 KY's own Daniel Ard. But it is still a long way to signing day, so we will have to see how it plays out.
