"I'm signing with Louisville because coach Pitino has the NBA contacts andknows how to get me into the NBA someday." Taquan Dean on National Letter of Intent Signing Day
In other news.....Tubby Smith's ex-player is draftedin the first round by Pitino's old NBA team.
Question: What did Taquan Dean say to Rajon Rondo?
Answer: Would you like to super-size that for a dollar sir?

Surely, you must be out of your mind. The stupidest statement ever made? Dean very well could still end up in the NBA. What about Randolph Morris? What about some of his statements? Does "I want to test the NBA water" ring any bells? How about Kelenna Azubuike?"I believe I am ready and I am willing to do whatever it takes to get better before the draft." Usually I look forward to your post, Doc, but this is pretty lame.

So you are comparing a 4 star player that was rated in the 70-80 range, barely missing the draft....to a 5 star McD's AA who barely made the first round? I think your statement edges Taquan just a lil. Boy, now this is what I call smack. Yet again we can finally see what Rondo is REALLY capable of. Tubby didn't have enough time to even teach that guy to shoot before he left, much less develop him for the NBA. Poor guy. They are tripping over each other trying to get out of your sinking program.

Let's not kid ourselves here, Rondo couldn't stand playing under Tubby, so he got out of Dodge. He could have used another year to work on his shot and probably would have been a lottery pick, but it must be pretty bad at UK when you'd rather risk losing millions of dollars than play another year under the tyranny that is Tubby Smith.
That's two years in a row where UK's best player has ditched Tubby. Sometimes it works (Rondo) sometimes it doesn't (Morris, Azubuike).
Meanwhile, you Cat fans are singing the praises of a kid who couldn't take playing for your team anymore.
Dean may not have the natural ability that Rondo had, but at least he didn't feel the need to get out of Pitino's system before his eligibility was up.

That is the name of the thread, son. The "stupidest statement ever made". And YOU bring up a quote by Kenny Payne? And you compare, "I am proud to announce I will be attending the University of UL" to", (where he played on a National Championship team, played in the NBA, and got a degree???) to "I've never had major knee surgery on any other part of my body"?

Oh, and as usual, you try to spin it. Yes, the thread is about stupid statements. I had to remind you of that when you told us how great Kenny Payne was. If you do not think that quote by Kenny Payne is just as stupid and funny as Winston Bennett's, then you must not laugh at anything.
And I love it when you call me junior and son, it makes me feel like I am definitely getting the best of you.

Bottom line: The spin that your fans have spewed since Boston Rick came to town is just spin.
Here is the spin:
Come to Louisville and win national championships...
Come to Louisville and Rick will get you to the NBA...
The facts are:
Come to Louisville and you'll likely get to play in the NIT
Come to Louisville and either be an NBA bust (Garcia) or not even be drafted at all (Dean).
And we are talking about two of your best players EVER.
Yet, play for Tubby.... can you say Tayshaun? Bogans? Maglore?

While you are at it, out of the 31 mentioned....how many wore Cardinal red?
I think its pretty obvious... The players "he" sent to the NBA are former KENTUCKY players.
Either Boston Rick has LOST IT (I think we all know that he has) or it is the SCHOOL for which they played.

It's neither. It's because more players have jumped straight to the pro's since the early 90's. Come on Lester, I know I don't have to explain this to you. Pitino has not lost his edge and you know it. Had the players that committed been here we wouldn't have lost a single beat. You and I both know it. Quit playing dumb. Facts are facts. It doesn't matter what school they played for, Pitino still draws ALL the attention from the best players in high school, and he ALWAYS will. He is a MASTER recruiter. 27-4.....WOW, I knew it was bad but sheesh, that is flat out pathetic!

How many more years are you willing to give him before he actually starts doing it at your place? Every year that races by is another year that Billy Donovan or Roy Williams or Coach K or any number of other coaches CONTINUE to bring in the recruits that Boston Rick once signed.......(while at UK).
The magic slips by more quickly with every passing season. Pitino is a Denzel re-do. He'll stay on past his prime because you all will let him. He won at UK so he must win here too. Nope! It doesn't work that way.
Look at Roy WIlliams. Won at KU and now he wins IMMEDIATELY at UNC. He didn't need 5 years to go to an NIT final 4.
I know, you say, its not a fair comparison between Roy and Rick because Roy is not at a Commuter College. Believe me I'm sympathetic to your argument in that case. It is much harder for Boston Rick given your "mid-major" academic status. Recruits know the difficulty of making it in the NBA so the ability to fall back on a degree from UNC makes the risk worthwhile.
There are benefits going to UofL....I'm not going to lie. A degree from a commuter college like yours gets you a leg up on the best shift available in the drive through window at Burger World.
Reece Gaines is your only "pro" during his tenure at UofL and he was Denny's. Sheesh, now that is pathetic.
A verbal commitment to play at LilBro from Telfair and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee.....and a see ya later from Rondo.
Hang on that spin if itgets you through the night.

Ah, how quickly uk fans like to dispel the NCAA Final Four in 05. Once again, it happened. Close your eyes tightly and tap your heels as long as you want, but it won't erase it. Pitino took uk to their first FF in his 4th year. Pitino took Louisville to it's first FF in his 4th year. Sounds like a broken record to me. Yes I realize he didn't go to the NIT in his 5th yearat uk. Although a second round blowout to Marquettewasn'tall thatmuch better. He also didn't lose 3 of his top recruits to the pros. This will no longer happen. It doesn't matter if the NBA made a one year or a three year rule. All we needed was one year to get them to campus.
Whatever the case, he is doing something right. uk fans want him out asap, while Louisville fans want Tubby to stay forever. Remember back when Pitino was at uk and uk fans were wishing Crum would stay forever? Funny how Karma works sometimes.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville might have violated NCAA regulations when an assistant basketball coach allegedly provided financial help to the father of freshman Nate Johnson, The Courier-Journal reported Friday.
The NCAA said such a case might violate its rules barring special benefits to players or their relatives.
The university already is on NCAA probation.
