ACC to shift #2 team from Gator to Peach
The ACC will announce today that it's number two team will no longer be slotted to the Gator Bowl, but will now be assigned to the Peach Bowl, beginning in 2006.

The Peach Bowl, which just reached a new naming arrangement with Chick-fil-A, will be boosting the payout that the ACC receives from $2.4 million this year to $3.25 million in 2006. The Peach is also in negotiations with the SEC boost it's participant from the #4 or #5 team to a higher rated team. If they are unable to get a higher pick, the SEC's payout from the game will remain at $2.4 million.

Historically the SEC's No 4 or 5 team would probably beat the ACC's No 2 team. But with the new teams added, the ACC No 2 is likely to be somebody like Miami or Fla St. And the SEC 4 & 5 won't fare well against teams of that ilk. This really doesn't make a lot of sense. If the Peach is trying to upgrade relative to the other bowls, some exciting fun games will help; they don't need imbalance in their picking of teams.
