Couch undergoes more shoulder surgery
FORMER KENTUCKY STAR CAN'T THROW FOR SIX MONTHS

By Mark Story
HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

Tim Couch has again undergone surgery on his right shoulder and will not play football in 2006.

Whether the former Kentucky Wildcats star and No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft will ever play again in the NFL is uncertain at best.

According to the quarterback's older brother, Greg, Tim Couch recently went to see Dr. James Andrews, the Birmingham, Ala.-based orthopedic surgeon who previously operated on Couch's throwing arm/shoulder in February 2005.

"They found a bad tear in his rotator cuff," Greg Couch said. "It was not something they had repaired before. They don't know if it is something he did (recently) throwing the ball or if it was already there."

I'd say that's career ending for #2. Sad, even after the Cleveland disaster I really thought he had a chance to make it in the NFL IF he was put in the right situation.

The right situation would have been a halfway decent football team. I just mean to amend your statement to say "not in the one or two situations in the NFL where he would get killed."

I've never seen a team destroy a #1 pick the way the Browns did Couch.

I'm glad he's gone from there. Now it's easier to hate the Browns.

If those pompous idiots that managed the Browns had exercised a little common sense and had built up the offensive line through the draft and trades and had gotten Tim some protection, I have to believe we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. :X

I hate hearing that about Couch. I thought the first surgery would have fixed the problem in his shoulder. Hopefully, the 2nd surgery will do the trick.

I absolutly HATED what Butch Davis and the rest of his retarded staff did to Couch when he played for Cleveland. And this is coming from a HUGE Browns fan! Never had a RB, WR or an offensive line and yet Davis never did anything to help that. Plus giving up on Couch to go to a worthless back up in Kelly Holcomb, what a pitiful excuess for a QB. If Couch was healthy and still with the Browns in their current situation, he would be in great shape due to a much better O-line, wide receivers, and a RB.

I had also heard a rumor that if Crennel had gotten to Cleveland just one year sooner, Couch would still be in Cleveland. Don't know if that would have held up do the injury but you never know.

I have. A Bengal QB. He was more thrown to the wolves than Couch.

It isn't saying much though.
