#1 for me was Archie Manning. Although Irooted for the Cats when they played Ol Miss Archie still is my favorite non-Cat. Iremember when UK upset Archie and Ol Miss at Stoll Field. What a huge upset.

#2 Major Ogilvie 'Bama. Loved to watch him play. What a hardnosed runner. Really epitomized the college game.

My favorite non-Cat tandem was Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley Auburn.

The Smoot defensive back at MSU (Fred?). The hippie QB at USC was funny (and we beat him).

Steve Taneyhill, right? I remember Zane Beehn putting a lick or two on him.

I enjoyed watching both Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas at Oklahoma State as well as Danny Weurffel and Errict Rhett from Florida.

Great choices. I'd add Peyton Manning to the list. I thought Manning exuded class.

One of my many favorites was Sam 'BAM' Cunningham.

Although he was from USC (I don't cheer for them) he was a blast to watch on short yardage. He was the first I ever saw launch himself before the line and get so much air he was almost impossible to stop.

Although I hate to admit thisI really enjoyed watching OJ at USC. People forget what a great runner he was. He was a wonder to watch. Kind of glided alongand then kicked in the afterburners when needed.

Great choices Blue4ever. I would add Congridge Holloway (QB-UT),Tommy Cassanova (DB-LSU), and Hokie Gajan (RB-LSU).

Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson are hard to omit as well.

If I ever use USC, it means University of South Carolina. U$C is Southern California.

Before you guys ever used a modem, a forum existing on what was called unews. It was rec.sport.college.football. The conclusion was reached to use the above. Not doing it is like getting rid of a basic English Common Law tenet.

Danny Weurfell (sp) and the original Fun N Gun. Ike Hilliard/ Fred Taylor...if you did not enjoy them as college athletes you just don't like college.

Reggie White & Alan Faneca. Two of the most dominating linemen that I have ever witnessed. The Minister of Defense speaks for himself. Faneca simply blew our (and everyone elses) DT's off the line of scrimmage when he was at LSU. He was a steamroller and is currently a Pro-bowler with the Steelers.

A toss up between Archie Manning and Condrege Holloway. My grandparents lived in Pope Miss. and I saw many of Archies games on an old snowy black and white. Went to Oxford acouple of times and saw him live, what a player. Holloway was the BEST pure option QB I ever saw in the SEC, plus he had a great arm. If he had played at an Oklahoma or Neb. instead of a group of very mediocre UT squads, he would have won a National Championship.

Ibn Green - All-american TE at UL in early 90's. Of course, I've always hated the ville but this guy was a a neigbor and friend of mine when we were kids and I always rooted for him.

Larry, I must be dirt plus a few. I see lots of big time NFL names here but of those that were more college stars than NFL, my favorite is even older than Mira.

I was a big UK fan as long as I can remember, but lived in Knoxville a few years as a youngster. And I loved to sell peanuts so I could get into the games free at UT. (Yeah, peanuts were the thing back then.) And I still remember the thrills that we got from Johnny Majors. He was an all-American tailback who only weighed 165 and UT was still doing the old single wing stuff. But it was so amazing to see Majors and a host of blocker going out on a sweep, and then Johnny would break out of the pack for the biggee. (Funny thing. Majors could pass but Neyland wouldn't let him. )

But then I hated his guts when MY Cats came to town.

For me personally, it might be Kenny Walker... former Nebraska All-American defensive tackle who was deaf. I saw Walker's senior day on TV and was a freshman in high school that year. I remember a newspaper headline my neighbor gave me (a huge Husky fan and alumni) that had "Makes Big Noise in A Silent World" splashed across the headline. That's the kind of person I wanted to be. :)

"But Walker also had a major impact on the Nebraska program. Seldom do we look back on painful losses with pride, but no one who was in Memorial stadium on Senior day in 1990 for Kenny Walker’s last home game against Colorado could forget the silent ovation that fans provided for Walker. I’m not one to shed tears over football, but anyone who wasn’t a little choked up in that moment has no soul. Walker might be the only reason to remember the otherwise forgettable season of 1990. His story touched people nationwide."

We're getting dangerously close to that distinction ourselves.

Faves: Anthony Thompson, Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson - they wereall amazing running backs and I still think it's a travesty that Anthony Thompson didn't win the Heisman.

More recently, I also really enjoyed watching Matt Jones, the former Arkansas quarterback - he was tall and awkward but surprisingly mobile and elusive. Alabama's Freddie Milons was a lot of fun to watch also.

Reggie Bush. Not only was he just fun to watch, I also had some money riding on USC having another undefeated regular season, so I had a rooting interest there as well.

I have two. Admittedly I never saw either actually play. I have only had the opportunity to watch black and white (some color) game films. Jim Brown Syracuse. The guy has to be one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. An All American in football and Lacrosse, also a very good baseball player. His pro rushing records for the Browns were phenomenal considering the short time he was in the League. I could do without his social - economical commentary and views but respect him nonetheless.

Hop-Along Cassidy Ohio State. I have had the honor of Hop’s friendship since the mid 1980’s after moving to Columbus. All American and Heisman Trophy winner at OSU. One of the last NFL players to go both ways. In a 1957 (?) Detroit playoff game played the entire second half with a broken leg. A number of years ago, Sports Illustrated in a cover story entitled “The Greatest NFL Game in History” paid tribute to Hop and the game. He’s the kind of guy that you can sent down a drink a few beers with and never hear him say a bad word about anybody well, except anything and anybody affiliated with Michigan. Just a class guy.
