I'm checking with my college contacts, but I don't think there are any dramatic changes. Here's one clarification, but the explanation could get confusing.

It has to do with the holder for FG's and PAT's. The holder always has his knee on the ground when he takes the snap. If the snap is high, and his knee comes off the ground and when he catches the ball returns the knee to the ground, that is an exception and allowed. But if the snap is low and the same thing happened, there was no exception and by rule the ball would be dead as soon as his knee returned to the ground. They expanded the exception to allow both situations.

That makes sense and is logical, therefore, I can't believe they did it.

The new rules announced by the new SEC supervisor of officials will have an impact on the games.

In the past on a kickoff, the clock started when the ball was caught, or if it went out of bounds, or was a touchback, it didn't start at all. Now, the clock starts when the ball is kicked.

Also, on a change of possession, the clock starts when the referee gives the ready-for-play signal. In the past the clocked started on the snap.

These will speed up the game and make a difference in the number of plays each team will run.
