It is kind of funny to me that UL has to run promos like these EVERY single year in order to drum up season ticket sales. When you have a program that speaks for itself then you don't need all of that no necessarily speaking of UK but big time football schools don't need to run ad campaigns in order to sell out season tickets.

Yeah, instead you run around painting barns and send out emails to everybody in the state begging then to buys tickets. good point. We are so desperate for ticket sales...oh wait....the waiting list is over 1,000 now....and growing as we speak. another good point.

Yeah, and you guys come out every year and predict trips to nationl title games and BCS bowls and undefeated seasons and then you go out and get your heads handed to you by South Florida.
You can turn it around and try to make it a dig at UK if you want, but the biggest problem you guys have is the media outlet at U of L. They set these pie-in-the sky goals and it puts such an unrealistic burden on the team that when you get the inevitable loss to whomever, it devastates the team and the fan base and the whole season is considereda failure.

BB, I understand that you are not familiar with how big time programs work....so lemme fill you in a little bit. Pretty much EVERY single top 1-15 program is going to get the exact same expectations laid on them. Miami, LSU, Georgia, Florida State....etc etc etc. ALL of them will have pressure put on them by the media. Fans will talk of undefeated seasons, and the media will chime in. It called "setting goals". If you can't learn to deal with pressure then you shouldn't be playing the sport....or ANY sport for that matter. One blown call kept us from out BCS bowl last season and you know it. STILL, a New Years Day Gator Bowl is FAR...not even in the same area code....from a failure. I know it eats you alive to think it, but I along with just about every Louisville fan I know considered last season a great success. Of course we would have liked to have gone to the Sugar Bowl but considering Brohm went down, I think he Gator was better suited.
If I were you I would just try to get my players serious about football and aim for the pinkflowers.com bowl. Us making the BCS will take care of itself, don't you worry. To say our season was a failure (ESPECIALLY being a uk fan) sounds 110% like sour grapes.

One blown call, huh? Okay, whatever...
I'll ignore the majority of that stuff becauseit's utter nonsense and YOU know it and it's not worth wasting time to respond to.
What I will clarify is the bit about the season being a failure. I have many friends who are loyal to U of L (graduates, employees of the school, etc.) and when you guys lost to the Bulls, you wouldn't BELIEVE the stuff I heard. Half were calling for Petrino's head and the other half were ready to concede the whole season when it became apparent the Big East title was out of reach. Oh, and I'm not talking about one or two people, either. I'm not saying they are representative of the whole fan base, but it's not too hard toascertain they probablyweren't alone.
As for my take on it, other than the smack stuff, I never once said the Cardinals season was a failure. Okay, you stubbed your toes a couple of times, but overall it was a very good season, maybe even a great season. And if you look back, I was the first UK fan to post here and congratulate you guys on the bowl bid and wish you all well. Let me also remind you that when you guys lost the OT game to West Virginia, the only thread I started was to tell you guys to keep your heads up and not get discouraged, because I know what it's like to watch your team lose a heartbreaker in overtime. I didn't slam you guys or say one negative word. Just keep that in mind.
You are quite correct about the goal setting. It's not the undefeated season part I take issue with. Heck, every bleetin' team in the country wants that. It's just this whole notion that started when Schnellenberger came there that somehow or another U of L was (using his words) "on a collision course with the national championship". It's got nothing to do with which team I personally root for. I'm just saying that this mindset that every year Louisville is gonna be in SERIOUS competition for the nationa championship is just too far-fetched to buy into. Oh, you can say what you want about you guys having just as good a chance as anyone going into the season, and in theory that might be true, but I could say the same thing about every other school in every other D-1 conference in the country. In theory, EVERY school has an equal chance to go to the championship game.
I'm just saying there are goals and then there are realistic goals.
If (and you know as well as I do it's a very big IF)you guys are playing for the national championship at the end of this season, I will gladly come on this forum and congratulate you and admit I was wrong and have no problem doing it.
I'll believe it when I see it. ;)

And how many season tickets does UL sell per year? I mean how many are available for sale. I am QUITE sure that it is a far smaller number than UK sells. Besides the fact that I pointed out that I was NOT using UK football as a measuring stick.
I bet the reason there is not a link for UL season tickets is because Kroger bought them all up to give them away with every gallon of milk you buy during the month of Sept.

What are the real chances to play for the national title? Solid. The Cardinals are loaded on offense again and shouldn't be too bad on D, but what really helps is the schedule. A win over Miami would give them national title credibility, and a win at Kansas State the following week would solidify the respect. The West Virginia game is at home.
BB, you are a good dude in my book, but you have some serious denial issues. EVERYBODY in the country seems to think we have a great shot at the BCS championship, EXCEPT uk fans. Hmmmm. Interesting. I don't remember EVER saying that UK fans don't care about football. I know that I care I have been to every home game the past four years and at least one away game.
The only spinning I see in the thread the post about season ticket sales. The reason that you yardbirds have less season tickets to go around is because you have less seats it is sort of like supply and demand. The demand is there but that new awesome pizza box you guys have but it doesn't have the supply of seats to met the demand of your bandwagon fans.
So time for your spin!

Wrong, wrong, wrong!! I've been to several games at Commonwealth over the years. I was at the UofL/UK game last year. It was the first game of the season, against UofL, and I'm not joking, they had crowd noise piped in the sound system as the Wildcats took the field. Maybe that's why it sounded so "crazy". Uk may "want and hope" to win every game, but you know they don't expect to.

Don't really think you can say that since we actually have a student section that is more than 10 seats. The erupption zone is packed every single game and that is a big chunck of the arena then you have the spill over of the extras that can't in the student section that goes into the lower bowl and the upper deck. That arena is filled with agood portion of students so that would bring our overall age down. But thanks for playing.

OKay, I'll try to explain it so you'll understand where I'm coming from.
First and foremost, it has ZERO to do with where my allegiances lie as fan. I'm not one of those UK fans that immediately disqualify any team from the University of Louisville, okay?
It also has nothing to do with the quality of the Cardinal players, coaches, or the system that's in place. Strictly looking at it from a talent perspective, the Cardinals field a team that certainly has the ability to compete at BCS championship level.
Where I think the problem comes in is in the way the system is set up. There have been too many teams that have been in the hunt for the BCS the entire season that have been shut out when it comes to the BCS championship. I'm talking teams like Nebraska, Florida State, Auburn, Miami,Michigan, the list goes on. My gosh, it wasn't all that long ago that Auburn had an undefeated season but missed out on the championship game because of the screwy way the bowl system works. Looking at it stricly as a college football fan, yeah, it's great that the Cardinals break into the top ten and are able to hang with the likes of Miami, and Lord knows the bowls you guys have been to are some of the best ones in term of the quality of play, and yeah, it's great for the program to be recognized as a contender for the BCS championship. All of that speaks well of the growth of Cardinal football.
The "hump" I just don't see you guys getting over is the writers and coaches that cast the votes that decide these things. Louisville has a strong regional fanbase and while they're making some noise and getting some favorable coverage on the major networks, all of that doesn't mean squat when these guys sit down at their desk and they're used to covering the Wolverines, the Seminoles, the 'Canes, etc., etc., etc. You guys have a strong and loyal following but it doesn't compare to the following forthe schools you have to content with.
The Cardinals are perfectly capable of having an undefeated season and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see you pull an upset over one of the teams I just mentioned. To be very honest, I've never been a Hurricane fan and it would be great if you guys knock them off their pedestal.
I just feel like in order for a realistic shot at a BCS championship berth it will take just that: an undefeated season and at least one major upset along the way.
Fair enough? Again, school loyalties have NOTHING to do with my opinion, believe me.

BB, you are a good dude in my book, but you have some serious denial issues. EVERYBODY in the country seems to think we have a great shot at the BCS championship, EXCEPT uk fans. Hmmmm. Interesting. Seriously what does that tell you? It tells me that uk fans are so bitter about eating our dust that they refuse to face the FACTS. It's as clear as day.
Well, you are supposed to overcome things like that and make up for the officials mistakes.

BB, I hate to mangle your argument buddy, but Miami's fanbase is barely much bigger than ours if AT ALL. They don't travel well AT ALL. And they were once just as small of a program as we were. You have to start somewhere. If you notice, Miami catches the same stupid attendance smack from Florida and FSU fans that we get from uk fans. But where is Miami now. They are one of the greatest programs around with multiple Championships. I am trying my hardest to see your point of view, and in a way I guess I can. But if we go undefeated, and WVU and Miami go on to have solid seasons to show they were no flukes, we will be playing for a Championship. JMHO.
Well, you are supposed to overcome things like that and make up for the officials mistakes.
Kind of hard to do when that critical call is made in the closing minutes of the game don't cha think.

It is always someone elses fault UL for UL losses. Why is it never the fault of the team who was playing in the game.

Got beat fair and square. Against West Virginia, the league officials, said publicly that the referees made the wrong call.

Why the smack down ch? If you think our Rupp crowd is hyped every game you need a wake up call. I think the majority of UK fans would agree. But I'm not here to argue with a fellow Blueblood so as Mr. Gump says," That's all I got to say about that".

Noknee, I think it would help if you wouldn't look at every post as an "argument". Sheesh!
Anyway, my point was (again) not the size of Miami's fanbase compared to Louisville's. I don't visit the smack boards of the Hurricanes, FSU, and Florida, so I have no idea nor do I particularly care what kind of trash talk they throw down. This isn't about how many people are in one stadium on a given Saturday as opposed to another one. I'm just saying that AT THE PRESENT TIME, Miami and all the other schools I mentioned are the ones who are going to get the serious looks when it comes to voting for the BCS championship. It doesn't mean the Cards shouldn't get serious consideration, it's just the nature of the beast. I've never disputed that the Cardinal program is on the rise and they've established themselves well, but surely you must agree you guys aren't at the level of Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, etc., and those are the schools that are going to make the most noise in the minds of the writers and coaches that do all the voting.
However, if the scenario you mentioned in the last part of your post plays out like you say, you have every right to expect to be playing for the championship. I don't know that the voters will see it that way, but you would have a legitimate argument for saying the Cardinals belong there.
I don't know how much clearer I can make my point. Really, I'm just having a discussion, not trying to get something started. And it's just my take on it, which is worth about as much as any other fan's opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Sorry about that Blue sometimes on this forum I get a little to aggressive and the person who I am talking to doesn't really come into my mind. I agree that the crowd doesn't get as hyped every single game as I would like but it is still better than Freedom Hall and we have a far younger fan attendence. Although mainly because we have a HUGE amount of students at our games compared to the tiny student section at UL games.

Simple explanation True. See here at UofL, we don't all pile out of our games at halftime like at uk. They were prepared for that at Commonfilth by adding more exits.....MANY more. We are used to staying for the entire game, and filing out in an orderly fashion. Understand? Good.

LMAO! Tryst me, I understand what you mean. HD television is a beautiful thing. My cable bill is $100 a month, but it's worth every penny. I have a 55" Mitsubishi widescreen with HD from insight. The day I had it installed was during the last summer Olympics. I remember just sitting there watching men's and woman's swimming relays. I was mesmerized. You could see a penny on the bottom of the pool if it were there. I tell ya CH, the best channel to watch for HD is Discovery. When they go to places like Alaska, it is the most beautiful thing you will EVER see on television. I don't mean to sound like a girl, but it is LITERALLY breath taking when they pan through the mountains. And as far as football games, when they show close ups on the players, you can see the metallic in the paint on the helmets. It's unbelievable. It won't be long before it will be mandatory that EVERY channel broadcast in HD. I won't ever leave the house.

I beg to differ. My group of 6 were seated along the top row and had no means of egress. The exits were completely blocked and we were forced to ride out the storm. I remember watching the stadium lights swinging back and forth and hoping that lighting did not hit oneof them.
