France's Zidane one of the top player's in soccer, in the key moment in towards the end of the game, head butted an Italian player in a clearly classless and stupid play.
Congrats Italy on winning this years World Cup !
Hopefully the U.S. team will have a little more team speed next time around and have a better outing.

I saw that and its puzzles me as to why a veterna in his last world cup appearance for his country can't simply ignore the Italian and walk away. It was overtime and his teammates needed all the help they needed. In soccer, you don't get replaced when you get the red card, your team simply loses another man on the field! I'm not sure how his fellow countrymen will view his actions but in the U.S. that was a boneheaded move. :thumbdown

I was rooting for the Italians anyway, and am glad that the French didn't win it.

I've never watched much soccer but I got on the Italy bandwagon in their first final round game. i just like the way they competed against us and decided to follow them as far as they went. Lucky me; I picked the winner. I especially liked their goalie. He made some unbelieveable saves, none more important than the one off of Zidane's header during the finals.

Here's a trivia question that can make us feel a little better about our country's performance:
Q: Who's the only team that Italy played and did not defeat in the 2006 World Cup?
A: The United States
