Chuck had 10 points on 4-5 from the floor and 2-2 from the line and an impressive 19 rebounds today. You go Chuck.

19 boards? That's impressive, even if it was just a summer league game.
One of my friends and I have a theory: There are guys that can rebound, and guys that can't rebound, it's not all related to size or athleticism, and you can't go from a "guy that can't rebound" to a "guy that can rebound." Chuck Hayes is a great rebounder.

I'd agree that great shooting is an unteachable gift, but rebounding? Maybe ...

I think rebounding may be more teachable than shooting. I've seen guys who were just pathetic shooters start playing every day, and in a year or two they're able to knock down open shots with consistency. I agree that great shooters are born, not made, but I really believe that just playing the game a lot can turn one into a pretty good shooter.
If you add strength and quickness, you can obvioysly become a better rebounder. But I sort of agree with Doug: rebounders like Chuck are born. Rebounding is about angles more than anything. Recognizing the trajectory of the ball and positioning yourself in a spot to get it. Chuck was one of the best I've see at UK at reading those angles. (Jared Prickett was another master at this art.)
Great rebounders are born, but lots of good rebounders are taught. There are a select few guys that just know how to rebound. They are athletic enough but not overly gifted, ie Rodman, Ben Wallace, Popeye Jones, Hayes, etc. I don't think Shaq is particularly gifted as a rebounder, he is just big and near the rim a lot so he isa good rebounder. I think Morris can be a good rebounder too but he will never be a great rebounder. The same for shooters. It is both a talent and a learned skill. Lots of people can practice enough to be good golfers but very few are good enough to be a top golfers and those guys are just born with more talent. Really there are lots of things like this. Pool, golf, shooting, etc. Skills that can be learned but only a select few can master.

Looks like chuck only got 10 boards.. they just entered a 19 by accident, 4 offensive, 6 defensive. still a good showing.
