Some college football news from the dark side.

"University of Miami sophomore Willie Williams, the nation's most highly recruited linebacker two years ago, has told coach Larry Coker he is interested in transferring, Coker said Tuesday

Though Coker stopped short of saying Williams' decision is final, a UM official said Williams is seeking his release and his departure is considered very likely, barring a surprising change of heart. UM is expected to grant Williams' release once he picks a new school.

He could not be reached for comment, and it was unclear where he would transfer. WQAM's Orlando Alzugaray, who reported rumors of Williams' interest in transferring, has mentioned Tennessee as a possible destination. However, a Big East source said Tuesday that West Virginia was a strong contender. Louisville also has been mentioned.

Williams entered UM amid considerable controversy. Shortly after he signed a letter of intent with UM in February 2004, the Hurricanes learned of his behavior during a January recruiting trip to the University of Florida.

Williams pleaded no contest to felony and misdemeanor charges for allegedly discharging hotel extinguishers during that recruiting trip and allegedly hugging a student against her will.

Williams already was on probation for a 2002 burglary charge -- one of 10 arrests for theft-related incidents. A Broward County Circuit Court judge extended Williams' probation by three years and sentenced him to 250 hours of community service and ordered him to abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs and submit to random tests for both. He has had no known legal incidents while at UM.

UM's admissions office went through a ''rigorous process'' before allowing Williams to enroll, athletic director Paul Dee said at the time.

I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole. Amazing he might even find a school to take him in.

It's not that difficult to see UL taking him with open arms.

UL will get in some deep doo doo one of these days.

You can only dance with the devil so long before you get burned.

LOL. I do like "stirring the pot" especially right smack in the middle of the "dead zone".

As soon as I can develop a relevant defense for young Mr. Williams and UL (although we don’t know if UL is interested, for arguments sake I will say Yes) I will post a rebuttal argument that Johnny Cochran would have been proud of. Granted, this may take some time….

On a side note, the kid kept a public diary of his recruitment including trips to various colleges. I actually found it, well hilarious. The kid is quite a comic.

I hope, for UL's sake, they steer clear of this guy and others like him.

UL has, in the past, earned a reputation for lax discipline, bad behaviorand haboring criminal athletes in the past - a reputation that isn't in the school's (or the state's) best interest. Higher education there and inKentucky in general doesn't need theadded problem of a 20,000+ student university dealing with a reputation as being a thug haven like Miami.

I have no problem taking a kid who did something dumb one time, and wants a second chance. This kid does not sound like he fits that bill.

I hope he does not end up a Cardinal. If he does end up a Card, I hope he's smart enough to make the most of his second chance.

No - but the UM spokesman sure was! Rigorous admissions process my . . .

You know a kid is bad news when Miami thinks he's too much of a thug.
