" The four-class system in Kentucky high school football could soon join the list of sports relics.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association's Board of Control voted yesterday to move to a six-class system beginning in 2007. The 14-0 vote clears the way for member schools to submit comments on the decision. The final vote and official wording will be completed at a KHSAA meeting in August."

Going to a 6 Class system is pretty silly to me, the 4 Class system was just fine, just as it was without making a public and private league.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. One the one hand, I think it waters down what it means to win a state championship. Unlike basketball or baseball, where the winners can claim they are THE state champion, in a 6-class football system, the winner only beats out about 35 other schools. It's still a great accomplishment, but it seems a little watered down when you move tosix classes from four.
But on the other hand, there are plenty of schools out there that have no chance to win a state title under the current system. Most of the 4-A county schools in western Kentucky are like that, including my alma mater, Barren County. We're one of the smallest 4-A schools in the state, but 4-A nevertheless, which means that to win a state title we'd have to beat Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, or another of the huge Louisville orLexingtonschools.
Of course, it's not all about enrollment, as we only beat Glasgow once or twice every 10 years despite having about twice as many students, and we haven't won a playoff game in about 15 years.

Where teams will be placed under the new realignment

Now the only upside I see from this is the number of districts games will be less allowing teams to schedule more non-district games.
